I don't think a 2kr motor will easily fit in a 3LN frame as I believe some of the mounting points are different.

Anyway, I wouldn't be looking for a new motor just yet. Did the mechanic tell you what they did/checked?
It sounds like your compression is all good and it's running and if it's idling fine once warmed up I'd say the problem has to be carbie related. Does it start easily if you warm the bike up, switch it off then restart again?

If you haven't changed your spark plugs recently though it wouldn't hurt.

I guess you've tried starting both with and without choke? Generally don't touch the throttle at all when trying to start. From my experience It usually just the engine with these bikes. Depending how the carbies are tunned the bike may tend to start better with or without choke.

Check the position of the carbies pilot screws. The recommended default is 3 turns out which is what most people here seem to have success with. Although I have messed around with one of my mates FZR's who's bike much preferred more like 2 to 2 1/4 turns out. Anything more and it was a struggle to even get started.

If the mechanic hasn't done so already I would recommend stripping down the carbies and cleaning them thoroughly with carbie cleaner including ensuring all the jets are clear and blowing everything out with compressed air. Ensure the Starter Plunger Assembly/Choke slider is clean not getting stuck (even if the mechanic says they have cleaned the carbies there's no telling how thoroughly they did the job).

You can fit a 2KR motor to a 3LN frame - I recently replaced my 3ln3 motor with a 2kr as they are cheaper and easier to find. You need to make new engine mounts (not too difficult at all) you also need the 2kr carbies and intake rubbers and make some modifications to the airbox to fit over the new carbies. I also had to modify the throttle cable too.
