    Hey fellas,

Ive been thinking about buying some 3ln carbs that are going cheap where I live, but my bike is a 2kr. Impossible connection? Does anyone know if it wil work? Might the jet settings need to be changed or something, or should it be a pretty straight foward fit?

I figure its an easy way to play with your carbs without putting the bike out of action, what do you guys think?

    Thanks for your time!

they dont fit. the four 'barrels' are spaced differently.

But you can if you get the later model intake manifolds- the head porting is the same, the manufolds offset. Definantly fit as I had 2kr carbs on a 3ln breifly

What model would that be off Brad? What year perhaps? and if I may sound like a noob, what part of the carbs are the intake manifolds? Are they the 'barrels' that connect the carbs to the motor that cossie mentioned?

Sounds kinda promising, but I doubt the intake manifolds will be included in the sale, I'll try him though.

Ok see if i got this right..

    I had 1989 carbs on a 96?.

intake manifolds are the black plastic/ rubber bits that join the carbs to the head.

manifolds are available through yamaha or southern cross (i think I paid $100 for the 4) and you need to drill and tap a hole to suit the 3ln manifolds- for the bolt that holds the manifolds on. Thinking about it, there may well not be a casting where the 3ln bolt is- just beside the 2kr bolt. Have to check- maybe flick me a photo....

As far as jetting- the 3ln is a bigger carb, therefore must flow more air, and possibly could require rejetting, but I'm unsure.

Oh yeah you were sayinbg there/s a flutter at 13000 revs? Check your existing manifolds are well sealed just incase. I'll get around to sending you a photo of what happens if their not...

you can put 2kr carbs on a 3ln but not the other way round. There is no surafce to drill and tap. I have a 3ln and put a 2kr motor in, I had to buy 2kr intake manifolds and the 2kr carbs too. I tried every combination of 3ln intakes, 2kr intakes etc etc and the 2kr motor would only take the 2kr carbs (with the 2kr intake manifolds too).

You couldn't make an 'L' bracket with a hole for the original bolt, which tightens down on the manifolt base? T do think you are right about the meat to drill and tap but I'm sure it must be possible. No one's got some photos maybe even some dimensions???anyone a drafty???

    Just a thought..

for the amount of effort involved and the fact it probably wouldnt work properly you'd be as well to just find a set of 2kr carbs - they're more common anyway. Also if you bodge something up to fit 3ln carbs and it runs rough you wont know if its a carb problem ar an airleak and could spend $$$$'s getting the carbs tuned and reco'd and set up just to find the manifolds weren't seating right.

btw I have a set of 3ln carbs and rubber manifolds in good nick if anyone is looking for any. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    2nd 3ln

I just bought my 2nd 3ln bike and still I am having some troubles with my carbs, the bike will rev fine from 4000 to redline but wont carburate cleanly down low. Most will saythat it is being flooded but I have to see yet the overflow tube in the carbs spill out fuel.

The only solution that I have on my mind is to buy the set of 2kr carbs which I think is a roundslide rather than the flatside that the 3ln has. I think that the 3ln are **** coz I have own different bikes including a cbr250 of 87 vintage and would cleanly carburate from idle to 18000 w/o a hiccup, and here I am spending money again to carbs which I think no one can accurately tune.
Anyway Im still condering the 2kr carbs though I learned that the mechanic who was selling me the carb doesnt have the intake manifold of the 2kr which I thinks is essential in the swap.

Brad, any draw backs? and why did you go back to the 3ln carbs

Well, the 3ln carb is a bigger bore carb, with larger jets (or so the local grease monkey pointed out). I was chasing any free perf. increase I could get, and had the 3ln carbs sitting there

With all parts included, the 3ln actually fitted the 2kr frame better. She did move better with the 3ln on, but I also had pod filters haning off them..

I paid $100 for 2KR carbs with the rubbers. They are in good nick and haven't been touched since fitting them.

(I also have a set of 3ln carbs for sale for $100)
