I RUN A 2KR MODEL WHICH IS USING A LOT OF OIL, 1 LITRE EVERY 800KM, THE EXHAUST SMOKES ON START UP ONLY, AND I STILL HAVE FULL POWER, THE VALVE CLEARANCES ARE DUE A CHECK, ANYONE GOT ANY OTHER CHECKS I CAN MAKE, MAYBE THE PISTON RINGS ARE STICKING, OR VALVE STEM SEALS LEAKING ?.

    pow to the who

    buy a compression tester
    unscrew your spark plugs
    stick it in the hole
crank the bike, once, twice, three times
if the tester shows below 100psi then your in for rings, otherwise valves.
(ONLY IF THE SMOKE IS BLUE)
It could also be water vapour or fuel smoke if the smoke is a different colour.

Neil get someone to follow you on another bike and see if they can detect oil smoke or even smell it at certain times like going down hill and then accelerating at the bottom (valve stem seals) or under load at hi revs uphill(rings).

Look at the crancase breather pipe and see if it is oiley around that area.

1L every 800KM, thats really excessive. If you are getting white smoke during startup, it's normal as the engine needs is not warm enough to burn the fuel completely.

but if you are getting blue smoke at startup, it could be that oil is leaking through the valve seals into the cylinder, and when you start it up the first time, all the oil gets burnt. If you get blue smoke whne the bike is under load, then your rings are probably busted.

either case, a compression test as stated above is the good start, just make sure you get the adapter for motorcycles (smaller size)

But wont a compression tester just tell you that the compression rings gone not the oil ring?

If one ring has gone bad, regardless of which one, you'll need to replace all of them.
