I bought my FZR 250 87 for a couple of months, dones som mods and so on. But the top speed? what have you guys had? Im just wondering if i got some kind a "stopper" in my exhaust. Sorry for bad english, norwegian And also, i need new down pipes for my bike, any good stores somewhere? nothing in norway
Congrats on the bike! I'd imagine in Norway an FZR250 would be quite a rare item. Top speed for an FZR250 is usually dependent upon it's state of tune and condition of engine and chain. I'd say you should be looking at a little over 180km/h if it's working well. I remember doing a tiny bit under 190km/h on my old 3LN3 which hugging the tank and tucked behind the screen on a very very long straight.
Yah...girl! Had mine up to 160 without even thinking about it. Should do 180 easy...and thats with no fairings or cowling at all....
Mine only goes to 155-160km/h...... don't think it would be because of the 2 down on the front sprocket though....
Heh, yeah... with a 15 tooth front sprocket if i recall my 3LN3 topped out at 165km/h. The time it took to get to that speed was quite impressive however!
What do you mean?
I replaced my 17 tooth front sprocket with a 15 tooth sprocket and because of that my top speed has dropped.
sacrificing top speed for acceleration. I've dropped to 16 teeth, but after riding the 2 stroke it still feels a little gutless And I'm used to shifting gears every half second (thanks to the gearing on the dirty), so i'm thinking of dropping another tooth just for shits and giggles...
agree! Yeah, i have been thinking about that to! you dont need more than 150-160 anyway I love th acceleration! but i always have to fasten my chain cause it's slipping all the time.

got pretty much the same bike as you. it's black too. top speed around 80-90 km/h. I'm working on a solution.
ok, this is somewhat "kind" of part of the topic..... i have a fzr250 89 and i took it to 80k's first time (i just got my L's 2 weeks ago) and on the speedo, the light turned red...... is that a limiter? or a warning that i shouldnt be going more than 80k's cos i'm a Loser i mean Learner lol
it is only a little red light. dont pay attention to it. it is only there to "alert" you to the fact you are doing +80. why yamaha put it on there is beyond me. i would disconnect it if i could. what colour scheme you got on your ride FOXY?
i wont take ths off topic so i'll post up a pic in the appropriate section but thanks for that info, thats wat i was going to do, "ignore" it
that red light at 80 is something that the jap manufacturers put in cos most of the speed limits there are 80... kind of a warning indicator... apart from that means nothing....
hey foxy if no ones told u yet the red light doesnt mean ur a looser its cos of its year and being a import it lets u know that ur doing 80k cos thats the speed limit 4 250s over there dont quot me but im pretty sure. just remove the globe and youll be right good choice 4 a first bike happy and safe ridding
I have the same thing. It is a shift light on my bike it is set to come on at differant revs in higher gears.Mine is just about on all the time. Its cool.
