    Took a Suzuki SV650S for a test ride monday after work. Fitted with carbon fibre sports pipe ... ooooooH blooody luuverly music.

    Only a short ride as the shop was about to shut, but boy was it easy to ride...
    4000rpm at 110k on the highway, thats different to the FZR.

    This is a current model demo with 1,900k on the clock and $7500 price tag

    http://www.suzukimotorcycles.com.au/modeldetail.php?intBikeID=36

    It has to be a serious option for me... And it was RED <!-- s:-| --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_bike.gif" alt=":-|" title="Bike" /><!-- s:-| -->

    SV's are far more of a relaxed ride than pretty much any inline 4. Actually, most V-twins are more relaxed... until you get up into the 1000 twins and then they get fun. <!-- s:rofl: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":rofl:" title="Rofl" /><!-- s:rofl: -->

    Well I would have to agree, the SV is a great ride. So good in fact that I put a deposit down on a '05 model on Tuesday after the test ride. Picking her up on Saturday and trading in the GS500. Oh the memories.

    It still has the stock muffler and was quiet as a mouse. Three guesses what the first mod will be. Comes with an alarm, heated grips and a Scott oiler. Damn that digital speedo is going to take some getting used to. All you see is a blur of squiggly lines until you look down and realise you are going about 40 k's over the speed limit. <!-- s:???: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":???:" title="Confused" /><!-- s:???: -->

    Can’t wait to pick it up from the dealership, I’m counting the sleeps. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

    The fizzer is still in the garage getting a bit of a mechanical restoration. I don’t think I could part with it just yet.

    Are you getting the naked or the S model ??? Either way they are good all round bike.

    There is a good aussie forum for the SV as well -
    http://www.svdownunder.com/index.php

    I definitley miss the analog speedo - I find it hard to maintain a steady speed on the highway - OH bugger it, just go faster <!-- s:army: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_twisted.gif" alt=":army:" title="Army" /><!-- s:army: --> . I feel I could lose points real easy on this one

    P.S. This was a bargain too. It was $3K under new price and I sold my FZR privately and cost $4.5K to upgrage from the FZR.

    Yeah it’s the S model.

    I was happy with the deal I got and the trade in price they gave me for the GS was good. I even made a small profit on it, lol. It looks as if it will end up as a curtesy bike at the dealership so I might just get to ride it again.

    After the snow yesterday I was drooling over the thought of those heated hand grips and some sort of fairing to shield me from the wind.

    Thanks for the link I will have to check it out.

    Dahlitz Suzuki over in struggle town on yass road.

    All over me going home from work on Thursday. Damn it was cold especially after the warm weather we have been having. They say it was even snowing in Queensland and on the bushfires in the Blue Mountains. Surely Tassie would have copped it too. You must have been sleeping a bit longer than you realised. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

    I only live 3k from the sea 150m ASL and on the northern side of tas, it's rare to get snow here but there was about 150-300mm of snow yesterday, inland in the higher southern areas. But we had a good frost sitting on car roofs yesterday morning. Last weeks snow was visible here until about 10am.

    The most snow I've seen in town here was in 1986, about an inch deep and lasted all day.

    I am still riding with the liner in the Dri-Rider and still wear a jumper as well. Thermals would have been good under the jeans this morning but it was much warmer when I knocked off work, prob 18-20c

    Hey great thread Dave,

    Its really helpful for all us learners on our screamers to have an idea on what else is out there while we're imagining what the next step could be. Hearing what V-twins are like to ride and how bigger bikes handle is second only to getting out there and test riding ourselves (not likely on our learners licences...), and especially helpfull coming from an ex-250 owner.

    So thanks for the commentary! (and all the supporting banter back and forth from everyone else)

    Well thanks for that HisDirt, Nice to know it is appreciated. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    I am real pleased with mine. It pulls well right thru the rev range but doesn't like being below 3,000 rpm but it still goes strong right up to 10,000. An example is 3rd gear pulls like a train from 40k to 140k

    I actually enjoy going into a corner at 3000rpm and just being able to use the throttle/torque to make the bike straighten up coming out and get quickly to the next corner. I must be getting lazy.

    Ciarin how are you finding yours now you have had a bit of time on it. I have done a 1000K so far.

    I have only done about 600km so far. Around town it’s brilliant. I think I need to adjust the suspension a bit for the patchwork back roads about this place though.

    It’s a real eye opener when the bike doesn’t seem to stop accelerating. Its like it would go on forever, then you look at the speedo and think twice.

    The main thing that hits you is the stability. Compared to the GS it fells like I could let go of the bars and start doing yoga moves without upsetting the balance.

    The sound is really not so good with the stock can. Sounds like a sewing machine under a wet blanket. Just doesn’t do the V twin justice. I have ordered a new megacycle alloy slip on to rectify the problem and it should arrive next week sometime.

    Over all I am really happy with it so far. Its just decades more advanced than my last bikes and it doesn’t half show it.
