Premium or Standard fuel?

    Hello all. Was havin a chat with my bike mechanic today. says that in some bikes with hard valve seats (some jap bikes typically) they prefer to be run on regular unleaded. i was told by the last owner of my bike that he only ever run my bike on regular. my question is to all of you is, do you run your bikes on premium or regular? the mechanic said that running on premium will not do any damage to the motor, they may just run better on regular.

    no i don't think so. my fzr always ran fine on regular unleaded and why the fcuk would you pay more for premium unleaded when it doesn't make a wik of difference? bear in mind fzr250s are a late 80's or early 90's bike and back then premium unleaded probably wasn't even around. i run my '97 yzf600 on normal stuff and it goes fine as well.
    worry about putting expensive fuel in when you get an expensive and late model bike (ie. fuel injected) which can actually appreciate the difference.
    oh and if you must put premium stuff in avoid shell optimax - its not designed for use in carburetted engines.

    When I first got the bike I ran regular unleaded then switched to premium and then went back to unleaded again. Noticed no difference except in the wallet.
