It is legal to do that in California. I have done it, but only in Cali.

Although the government has passed the bill on lane splitting in Australia . It has not officially gone through yet. Be careful doing this as it may effect you hip pocket and shorten your riding time by handing in your licence.

It's complete bullshit, show me statistics of accidents involved with lane splitting?

They usually make up statistics anyway like "speed is a great cause of deaths on our roads" well no shite ay, the car has to be moving at "speed" to hit or be hit...

Spend any decent amount of time splitting on freeways and you'll soon realise that it IS more dangerous than not splitting. The number of bike accidents with nothing more than a smashed in front fairing are frequent on Melbourne freeways recently, and i've no reason to believe it's any different in other cities. That said, i still happily lane split - just not filter through moving traffic.

Ive actually just been starting to split, and Im dreading the day when I pass (or pull up next to) a cop. Still, the productive time saved avoiding Auckland traffic certainly adds up...

Speaking of which, it would be awesome to know how much time that guy saved splitting lanes on the video. He probably had like 90mins more time in his day than any of the cars stuck in traffic... of course its all fun and games till he gets taken out by some bozo

Where did this come from? Did someone state facts or hinted about the inherent dangers of doing this activity? Not jumping on your case or anything.

With that being said, I'll lane split 2-3 cars at a traffic light if I need to make a turn. Otherwise, I personally do not think it is a safe pratice at any speed.

I was more shitty at the new laws.

I also don't support lane splitting with MOVING traffic. It is stupid.

I'm talking about stationery things at lights. So if you hit them it's YOUR fault.

I'm in Adelaide, so traffic is a bit different. We don't have freeways that are busy. They just connect to the outer area and are very short.

If I pulled up next to a copper, I'd just ride off. If he takes my number plate then I'm done, if I stopped I'd still probably be done anyway.

there's a jail term for running from the law, you know

If your bikes registered, not stolen, and you're licenced to drive it, you're probably better off not trying to run from them - believe it or not, but they're actually trained to chase people, you know :p

(although if it's night, you're on a dirt-bike, and your tail light's blown, apparently it's possible to get away).
