I would say the tacho isnt right. either that or its stolen, as if it was genuine 15k or so on the clock, the asking price would be higher than that.
2 years ago my 2kr(at least 2 years older than yours) with 32k on the clock was worth 4800. do the math. hope this helps.

    I agree.

I purchased my 1991 3ln a year ago with 25k on the clock for 5k. So i would be a bit cautious it might end up costing you more than it would to pay a bit more for a different bike.

Ask if there is a service history available, or if you can get it checked by a mechanic before you buy it would be my advise.

Good luck and let us know how you go.

Definitely take care when buying a used bike like this but seriously - you boys were fleeced! I woudn't be buying a 15 year old fzr250 for 5K plus no matter how sorted it looked - i bought my mint '97 yzf600r for that price! and i sold my 1988 2kr (it had 25000km on it) less than a year ago for 3K so i think the price sounds reasonable.
to elaborate its not really the year of the bike you should be looking at - more the general condition and especially the running: Ie are there any funny engine noises, any problems starting, idling, revving (smoke) - generally the engine on the fzr250 will give you more grief than anything else so if its a good one - fork out.

I didnt pay 4800. that is what the last owner paid. i bought it off him for 2000 (with some issues). the best way to get the all ok on this is to get the vin no. and get it checked by Vicroads or RTA or whoever to see if it is hot. and get it RACV checked. they should be able to tell you what is wrong with it (if anything). if it all looks clean, go for it. i think the RACV check is 200 bucks, but it is money well spent.

I payed 5k for mine, but it did come with 12 months rego, service history, mechanics report, gloves, dragin jeans, and warranty.

Appart from some spongy front forks ( easy to fix ) it hasn't had any problems, start first time every time, no strange engine noises, no smoke.

So I think it was worth what I payed for it.
