    Hey guys,
I have just started riding, i have an 88 Fzr, the model with the exup valve. Anyway i have had a few problems, finally got the bike running, It has been running well for a couple of weeks. I had it out yesterday did about 250 km on it. This morning i went to start it, it will not start, it has fuel, plug leads attached, battery is charged. Does any one have any suggestions?

    Cheers

Back to basics again - 3 things you need to run

    1) Spark
    2) Fuel
    3) Compression

1 - spark is easy to test - get one plug out and hold the body of plug (still connected) to metallic part of engine while cranking over. Not uncommon to not start if battery voltage is low.

2 - Check fuel pump is running, open drain valve in one of carbs and see if fuel comes out. Try spraying an aerosol engine start product in the airbox and cranking over.

3 - Get compression tester and check compression, should be 140psi and if less than 100psi needs rebuild.

    I hope that helps

so do tell us in more detail what happens when you try to start the bike. does it turn over or do you not get any response from the bike.

    could be just flooded..

If you press the start button and nothing happens....

Could be a blown fuse, toasted soleniod, fried starter, cooked Ignition, faulty wiring, sidestand switch, neutral safety switch, bad muffler bearings, or the run switch is in the "off" postion.

You press the starter and it sounds like it is going to start then, there is a small amount of exhaust. Then nothing happens it just will not run. I recently cleaned the plugs. Two of the plugs were dirty cylinders 3 and 4 were cleaner, with 4 being very clean. I wonder if it is something to do with the carbs, i may need to have them looked at.
The bike is a bit of a shitter, the previous owner had not looked after it very well. So far have had to fix the clutch, exup valve etc. What sort of plugs do you guys use on your bikes.

Anyway i am considering cutting my loses and looking for a newer bike in better condition.

    Cheers
