Hey guys, Recently got my L's (after 3 times of trying) I've been looking at bikes on the net for some time now and the FZR really caught my eye, Perhaps because I like YZFR6's to (yammy) . Anyway my question, is 5g to much for a 94 fzr? I was looking to spend around 3.5 to 4 grand but theres a nice 94 model on bikesales and I haven't found many others to suit my likeing. I've been looking into ZXR250's aswell. http://www.bikesales.com.au/as/search/s ... age=1&x=80 Thats the link for anyone interested. I just don't wanna blow 5g on a bike if I can get something better for less., But I want something reliable, which deters me away from the 3g models i see for sale privatly.. But in honesty I don't know what I should be doing. Any advice apprciated, I've scoured these forums, spent a good 4 hours reading through the topics, so I've learnt alot. Ta.
unless you have had a ride i would not be casting judgement yet. it looks like it is in sweet condition, and it has 28xxx on the clock (in the photo), but it seem there are no original decals on it. To me that translates to it having had a respray at some point. and the biggest reason to get a respray is that someone has crashed it and had it repaired. you really need to ride it, listen VERY closely to the engine, and test other things like brakes, clutch etc. only then would you be able to tell if it is worth 5000. even if you are happy with it after that, i would try to haggle it down a bit, eg. "its 12 years old. i dont know about 5000" ;-). good luck with your purchase, and welcome to the forum!
i sold mine for $4,500 within 4 hours of it going to sale but i did spend alot of time getting it right, maybe you should be looking for something a bit cheaper, but remember we all have to start on a 250 so if you look after it you should be able to get pretty much what you pay for it
i was lucky to pick up mine second hand for $2550 through private sale, i immediatly sent it to MOJOS in Fern Tree Gully and had him do a full mecanical report/service, and all was pritty good. the bike goes really hard i am 95kg nude and when it opens up trough 2nd 10k to 15k i get the urge to hang on or fall off!!! lol top speed (due to me chickening out is 170km/h sounds sweet troughout the RPM range, but dose have a few imperfection noises at idle, been told the noise is the timming chain which needs to be replaced BEFORE 15000km.... (he told me $250 to do +also includes valve clerence work..?) if you can take the bike to another bike service center during the test ride and ask them to do a quick once over.. regards timothy
I live right near ferntree gully, maybe I'll check that joint out. My main fear is to buy a bike and then have to spend more money fixing up problems.
I actually went and had a look at the bike today, unfortunatly it was raining and to make matters worse there was something wrong with the battery so we couldn't test ride it, as it kept dying and wouldnt start. But my mate saw it a few days earlier and it started first time, so hopefully it's somehting minor as it does look like a very nice bike. Going back monday with my mate so he can test ride it.
Unless you buy BRAND NEW, you will always be spending more money fixing the bikes problems. Even NEW, you'll be spending money on it in upgrades and mods.....
So I went and had a second look at the bike with my mate. Started straight away this time, but stalled again when my mate rode it and wouldn't start. The guys at the shop said they thought they fixed the problem, they fixed a leaky fuel hose, balanced the carbys & did a minor service. My mate did one lap around the block before it died said it felt alright, he said you can't slowly release the clutch, you gotta release it all the way straight away. But he also said don't get the bike cause it's gonna have to many problems. The guys at the shop said they will do everything they can to make it run good again then give me a call. My problem is I like the bike, but it has stuffed up the last 2 times but they could be minor problems and if they get fixed and the bikes good I could miss out on a real gem. Anyone have any imput? Should I just look for something else?
Yeah, I decided to start looking at some 2002-03 zxr250's. I had my heart set on an fzr but its so hard to find one in good condition, well at least for me it is. The shop called me back and said the bikes running perfectly now, and I won't have any problems but I'm skeptical.
there are 2 for sale in albury wodonga at the moment. look up "border mail" and look in the classifieds. i have seen one and it looks to be in good condition
u must get past the cosmetic features of the bike. this goes for anything, cars and motorbikes. Its no good looking fantastic if it cant leave the shed.
