hi all iam a newby to site wanted to say hi an ask if anyone in brisbane knows of anyone or place that i can get a modified second seat for my 3ln fzr250 has i want to get rego for single seater only great site guys
I believe if you want to register it as a single seater you simply need to remove the rear foot pegs. Not overly sure though as we don't get that option in Victoria.
thanks koma but in qld your rear seat must not be able to be used at all i have just used a strip of thin alloy across the seat has iam told by qld trans this is ok iam going to look into makin a fibreglass piece to over where the seat goes by using the seat has a mould an make it from there but will get bike rego done first
Hmm... well i learnt something today! I'd heard people from Qld talking about the single seat rego's in the past; that's where i got the impression that removing the pegs was enough. If you can make up a nice rear cowl then you might actually be able to sell a few to other forum members if the price is right. There aren't many ways to cosmetically modify the FZR250 these days.
yeah 8_stitch i just used abit.5mm piece of aluminium that covers 3/4 of the seat qld transport didnt even look at the seat when i got the rego on it today
Im in Brisbane.. and i had it done last year, all you have to do is just remove the bracket + pegs on the NON exaust side , and for the Side that has the exaust just remove the PEG only leaving the bracket to hold the exaust pipe. The bike i had is a 3LN FZR250 89' haha , you then take off the rear seat and if your creative the law states u have to make it 3/4 covered in a hard case of somesort so no one can sit on it. But i didn't have the funds so all i did was remove the strap on the face of the seat and undid some of the staples under the seat just enough so i could pull the STUFFING out so all im left with is a loose Black material cover on top and a hard plastic casing at the bottom on it. I then got my stape gun that i got from Crazy Clarks for $2 and i re stapled the side i pulled the staples off so the black material is neatly down with no sides sticking out. Attached the rear seat back on now it just looks like Saggy skin from an old person. But at least now its a solid piece. You then head off to your local Bike dealer, i went to city yamaha's and they charged me $70 i think to get the plate drilled to my frame and certify my FZR is now a 1 seater, you'll recieve a pink slip of paper from them saying its legally done. I also asked them what if down the track i wanted to take someone on my bike ? would i just reattached the pegs and brackets and stuffings back in and its back to a 2 seater rego. What city yamaha told me is once the plate is fixed to your bike.. its on for life, if i wanted a 2 seater again they won't remove the old plate they would make another plate beside it and pop rivet it to my bike again. so you get the idea. Take that slip to your Queensland transport and give them the slip and DONE. Just wait a few days in the mail and you'll recieve a new rego sticker. You may think that lets say you still have rego left on it since it was a 2 seater and now converted it a 1 seater they'll give you a refund of some sort since u trimmed about 1/2 the rego out of it but hey from $350 for a 2 seater to just $160 /year for a 1 seater per year rego is a Good deal i reckon. But the truth is.. they don't they'll say 'we'll just minus it from your next rego due date so you'll pay less'. Oh wells since my FZR was my 2nd bike good to learn on, i wouldn't recommending taking any pillion passenger on, its too dangerous to be riding with a 2nd person in your care on an 18 year old bike but its up to you.
omg your all so slow you can register the bike as a single seat by just taking off the footpegs just dont register it at queensland transport any good bike mechanic will roadworthy and register it as a single seat bike and most cops dont have a clue about roadworthy requirements for a bike I RIDE AN FZR 250 WITH SINGLE SEAT REGO, A PILLION SEAT AND BOTH FOOT PEGS AND WAS PULLED UP WITH A FRIEND ON THE BACK COPS DIDNT HAVE A CLUE
ok sorry for replying so late to this but today the mechanic i took the bike to to get the sump fixed went to get a RWC from a guy he usually uses and even though BOTH the back foot pegs are removed and the holes have been pot rivveted AND theres no foam in the seat, it is ripped, and has staples IN THE TOP he still wont approve it for one seater until the vinyl is removed WTF????? no one could possibly sit on that any better than a hard surface, say a piece of aluminium. so now he has to rip it off and leave me with a mettalic blue bike with an ugly white bit of plastic sitting on the back i just read this looking for an idea of something to do as im lacking funds to do something sweet like an R6 tail, and as you can guess... im in QLD!!!!. this may sound stupid but how is a bent bit of aluminium gonna stay on the back? did the ends have to be cut and bent so it would go under the plastic part of the seat? pictures anyone? or should i not worry about it and when its passed just chuck some painted viynl back on it?
Found a fibre-glasser that might be able to do up a cover for me, need to take the bottom plastic bit of the seat in when i get it back from the mechanics and he'll see what he can do. hopefully he'll be able to make one up cheap as this is what i wanted to do to the back when i got the bike..
I'll be doing this but by myself, my father is an amateur fiberglasser (sp?) so we'll make something up that looks half decent
If anyone can find a fibreglasser who moulds rear tail's for the FZR250. Please be sure to let us all know. I'd kill for a custom tail. Given that i cant pillion on L's this would look teh sexual.
i can do fiberglass work.. but im very busy at the moment. i'll try and come up with a couple of things..
yeh. thats the problem. but shipping fiberglass wouldnt be too expensive. espically if i made it in a way that would be spall packaged.
Didn't even bother. Just took the seat off (open compartment) for roadworthy and for QT to check the frame numbers then put it back on and its all sweet
