hey, i just tested my rectifier ( which i thinks faulty) at 3k rpm, its getting around 14.3V and it charges when i rev it but, when i put my lights on and check it, the charge drops and keeps dropping, hence when i ride my biek at night, the next time i try and start it my batterys flat. How do i go about finding what is wrong?

Thanks

your headlights should be on all the time regardless of day or night. i'd be getting it fixed.

What voltage do you get at 4,000rpm with the lights on ?????

Is this a 2KR running 2x 50/55w globes by any chance?
The poor thing can't cope with that much drain even if your riding at 4000+ rpm; only thing to do is to run with only one headlight on low beam and hook up both headlights for highbeam. This means that you'll get a moderate amount of light during normal night riding and lots of light when you need it.

I run 50/55w in my 2kr are and it is fine. I had the problem of charging to much, bought a new reg and all good. I would say that there is something wrong with reg/rectifier. Mine did funny things before I bought a new one, and looked like it worked correctly most of the time, just randomly it charged too much and boiled the battery...Just mean that if there is a prob with charging at some time, it usually is because of the reg......cost me $120 for a brand new one.

Makes sense - a boiled battery is no good..

Mine ran 2 x 55w lights without problem UNLESS i had the fan running all the time AND I was in stop start traffic (idling a lot of the time). Then the battery would run flat.

Another problem sorted

Yep, that was probably closer to the circumstances of my friends old 2KR. We were going for an around the city cruise and down to the beach on a hot evening. Poor guy had to roll start it everywhere we went.

ahh man it also depends on the battery condtion i think ur battery is not healthy its old and reaching her death... mine i dont know how many watts my lights but several times i keep the light on around 10 minutes with turning off the engine nd then start at the elecrtic starter normally i think ur problem is with ur battery u have to exchnage it with new one another way for determing if its charging or not at night in dark place turn on the lights nd then watch the light intensity at the lowest rev that the engine works then give it a little rev u should notice that the light intenity is becoming higher as rev more if thats happening means ur battery is receivng charging but the problem is from the battery itself

I think what Jad said was (Dave translates to english ) " the lights will dim when the engine is idling, compared to running at higher revs, which is normal "

However it will become more noticable if the battery is getting weak, but you will probably notice it cranking poorly when you try starting well before that.

It is best to check the charging circuit at the battery terminals with a multimeter with the engine running and lights on at say 4,000rpm and rev up to say 16,000rpm. If the voltage is over 13.8volts all the time, except idling, your ok.

ok man i didnt noticed that u mentioned that u have a new battery but after u told me i dont know y iam still thinikng the prob is from the battery i dont know why iam waiting after u fix the prob i wana know from wat it was just iam sure for battery charging 3 things the coil that is made up of the a magnet rotating within the crank among stable coil the regulater that is for regulating the voltage its located under the fuel pump this is for blocking the charging proccess more than the 13.8 volts thus regulating the current peaks and the BATTERY anyway just measure the current as they told u it should b 13.3 from 4000 rpm nd more the same 13.8 if its right then reexchange the battery
