chain

    tryed to pull my chain off the other day and couldnt find a clip on any link is this what its ment to be like on a road bike because on my dirt bike i have a clip on one link that hold it together that you can undo and do up?

    As far as I know, it's like that by design.

    MOST people prefer the rivet type joiner over the clip-on joiner for road bikes. Just a nuisance if you want to remove the chain but there is that added security that it won't come undone on the road.

    My mate messed around with that clip-on style on his zzr250 (1 yr old)

    From then on, the bastard kept undoing itself.

    There are 3 types of chains.

    Clip style - Has a masterlink that is held on by a long "C" shaped clip.
    Rivit style - The master link is held on by the link itself by being slightly deformed.
    Endless style - Place on the bike at the factory. (designed for the bike, w/no masterlink)

    The first 2 are the ones seen/bought by 95% of the populace. You can buy endless, but to install the chain requires the removal of the swingarm (and they generally costs a lot more).

    If you put the clip on the wrong way round, it will continue to come undone...
