    what are your opinions people?
    i am concidering a personal loan on top of my R6 fund to buy a 748s, so how do yous rate them next to a jap bike?

    I dont own one personally, but the mates i have who own them say they are extremely high maintenence. they seem to enjoy the riding but IMHO you will get more bang for your buck from a jap bike. the new R1 seems like a sweet peice of work.

    Extremely nice bikes. Very high level of fitout and generally excellent build quality.
    The problem is that if you enjoy spirited riding you may find yourself rather afraid to go as hard as you would in the past with the knowledge that if you do go for slide the repair bill will be significantly more than the Jap equivalent.
    Also, you may be a little disappointed from the power for the 748. It has about the same amount of power as an R6 but a significantly gruntier delivery of it in the low end of the rev range. IMHO if your buying it because its an object of your lust/love then go for it because nothing i say will change your mind. If your buying it because you think its a high quality sports bike, well yeah it is but there's better bikes out there for alot less money.

    Go check out a Daytona 675. <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->
    ... or wait for the 800's to start rolling into production. I think i'll eventually buy a brand new bike when i can get my hands on an 800 with ~140-150bhp and 190kg wet; those numbers for me are the perfect bike!

    Yeah.. Those Triumph 675's write up fairly well.... 123hp@12,500rpm.... 3 cylinder..... dry weight 165kg (Same as the FZR250)......good brakes and handling...... almost $15,000 though. Would certainly give an R6 a good run for the money

    thanks for the pointers, the reason i was looking into it was for the love of the bike i went for a ride with a family freind who has owned the 996 since new and that bike is sex on two wheels.
    in his words "if you like the bike so much go get a second hand 748, (privatly) you'd get one for about $13000 nowdays"
    so i guess im only looking into it because i cant afford the 996 and this is the cheaper alternative but i guess it would be bit more confortable than a big bike upgrading from the 250.
    im still unsure so i guess ill just have to wait and see what happens when i have the money sitting in the bank.

    why a second bike on top of the r6? especially if it's nearly identical (the cbr600).

    If you're getting a second bike go for something different. otherwise you'll end up favouring one and the other will just be a waste of money.

    yeah i was like that about the R6 i thought i wanted one until i came across a CBR 600RR and fell in love with it, IMO it's an incredible handling bike.

    that's just my 2cents
