    Hi all,

Just gettin myself known on the forum, I have just bought my first bike, a 89 FZR 250, with original paint and 19000 ks on the dial. Will get some pics up asap.

Quick question, how much freeplay should the chain have for appropriate tension?

Usually 10 - 20mm of vertical movement, measured in the centre between front and rear sprockets..

Welcome to the forum Sam. Hope you get those pics up soon..

    Hi Sam,
I just joined as well. Is your fizzer in the 'silky white' colour scheme? Mine is, and I really enjoy it. Would like to see a picture of the 'Nescafe Americana' version, 3HX2, I believe... I read Cuddles has/had one? Anyway, welcome!

Colour is White with Navy and Light Blue Decals. Will hopefully take some pics over the w/end if the weather is good. I will also need to adjust the tension slightly.

Is this just a case of loosening the rear axle and adjusting from there?

Make sure the two adjusting screws at the back of the axle have the locknuts undone and the other two jacking nuts are just nipped up evenly, not too tight.

Then undo the big bolt but not too loose. Tighten up both the jacking nuts, say one flat at a time and check the tension.

When the correct slack is obtained, tighten up the axle bolt and then the locking nuts.....

I use a venier (sp?) caliper to check the distance on both sides. Measure between where the adjuster bolt come out of the swingarm to the adjusting block. This will give you the most accurate reading as the marks are not always correctly aligned on both sides.

Thats another good way to do it.

The first time I did mine I got it upright in a stand and made sure the rear wheel lined up with the front wheel using string lines off the back wheel. Its a bit tedious but effective. Once that is done adjust both sides equally to get the tension right..

Back on the road, had a heavy duty regulator replace the standard one.

Here is a pic of my bike.

I didnt show the RHS as there is a crack in the fairing from previous owner but will be looking to get that fixed b4 summer. will keep original paint and colours though. I am glad that someone else likes the colour to, the missus dosent like it.

I'm not sure if you noticed this, but it looks like you have a pair of 2KR headlights on your 3LN
