Sprocket size? have you checked your front sprocket size?? I just bought an FZR250 and pulling her apart, (one of the the conrods tried breaking out of the engine), I find it had a 13 tooth sprocket. I too wondered why I couldn't get it above 120-130. I had to really max out 5th gear out and even then I only made 135+ on a downhill stretch of freeway. Koma reckons a 15 tooth sprocket will do ~160kph. ergo a 13 tooth sprocket's max v would be ~138kph.
i havent checked the front sprocket but i have had just under 140kph about 97mph on dual carriage way lol
okay, sorry to hi-jack this thread but i thought it is an appropriate title with my query..... my bike which i have an on again off again relationshp with does not like revving past 10krpm, i feel the bike "bog" down and struggle to go more than that, it absolutely struggles to get higher and the bike starts to lag... whats the go with it? thanks guys/gals!
Foxy have you got an EXUP version?? If it is, it could have a broken cable and staying shut when it should be fully open at 10,000rpm.
To get top speed out of mine I have to keep the rev's way high 16-17k before sliping into top gear or it will not wind out the top gear. I too thought that 120-130k was max for my bike.. (130~155 very slow gain tho) Foxy same problem when I started with my bike, run a 3rd of a bottle of carbi cleaner through a full tank of petrol and it makes a massive difference though it will not completly fix it.. I have spent $1500 on services to fix the same issue and got more results of a $14 bottle of carbi cleaner. In the end it was narrowed down to the main jets but I have no more money
Mine was the same, thats when i checked and found that one of my exup cables where broken and he other one wasnt far behind. replaced them both, YOU BEAUTY, zooooooooooom
Start with the easy (cheap) things and go from there... 1. EXUP cables & servo operating? 2. Fuel pump operating? 3. Air filter clean? 4. Spark plugs been replaced? 5. Spark leads been checked?* 6. Carbs been cleaned recently (if ever)? 7. Compression been tested? 8. Valve clearances been checked? * I had an issue with my FZR1000 where by i would run into what felt like an electronic limiter of some sort at 205km/h. I could cruise along as long as i wanted at 200km/h but attempting to push it past 205 would make it feel like someone had hit the kill switch. Turned out to be the spark leads. Trimmed all the ends of the leads and it was as good as new; all the way up to ~280!
hey guys, thanks alot for the quick replies... although i do believe that it maybe the exup cables bike has been serviced, sparkies replaced few months back air filter is clean... will look for a good mech to mess around with the cables... unless anyone else here has a recommendation? cheers guys, really appreciate it
Have a look at this post on the exup, as this is essentially the same as your bike. It should help you diagnose a faulty exup or cables. http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=676
