Hi

i have had some serious bad luck as of late and now i will fill you in....

I was riding the bike when it gained a miss fire sometimes at hard reving, which i thought about getting sorted, but used it for another few days when we had some really bad rain on the way home from work and the bike died. So i parked her up got a lift home and when the rain stopped went back and she started first time ( it was left for about 2 hours). So trying to be sensible i thought i'll ook it in to the local garage and get it checked over to see if there was anything needed changing, i just wanted to make it a worry free machine. so i took it in and the mechanic said he'll check the compression first then if thats ok he'll change the shims clean the carbs, change the tyres change sprocket and chain. all sounds good. ( oh he quoted 5 hours for that)

So thinking 5 hours great, ONE week later i get a call saying its ok and hes ordered all the bits so all good, TWO more days i get a call asking what engine size is it ( i was a bit worried as he said he had ordered the bits) but fine. another day passes a phone call is it a grey import? well it had to be surely. finely two weeks pass and i get a call the bike is lost compression on two middle cylinders so the engine is know good he guessed at a head gasket but was being very something basically very open it could be anything so wants me to provide a running scrappy engine.
So after a little consideration i thought get the bike back the guy is obviously no idea. So told him i was nice about it, and he got the hump.

I went to pick the bike up today took ten minutes to start as he had broken the battery connection. then it ran like a tank ticking over at 4500 rpm all the time and pushed all its water straight out the pipe by the back wheel.

Thought i'll try to get it home. it wouldn't go any quicker than 10 mph . so i had to leave the bike with them until i can get a van.

So i'm now upset angry and wondered what you guys thought.

Oh should have mentioned when i turned up he had done the tyres, chain, sprocket and nicely charged me £400.

Contact your local regulatory authority and explain the situation- that you wanted him to find out what the problem was, then he did repairs that do not affect the problem. That pisses me off- I had 2 very similar situations- one with the FZR, and one with an outboard motor. Now I have nothing to do with mechanics unless I have no choice.

Finding a trustworthy mechanic is very hard, but they do exist.

Sounds like this particular one is not very good and that he took on a job he shouldn't have. Useless people who call themselves mechanics will almost certainly give you a clue. I'm sure someone in this forum with experience will give you some pointers like; maybe look at the condition of his/her workshop, ask your mates or this forum if they know any good ones or if you are keen ask this forum to help you!

If you love riding don't give up so soon.

My two cents worth

you should have rode (or pushed) it out of there without giving him a sent and if he had a problem with it gone into his shop and grab the biggest spanner you could find and started smashing ****...

Well i spoke to the owner and they will call me back today or tomorrow regarding the bike situation. It looks like the bike will have all its old bits put on an delivered back to me still broken but won't charge which still isn't great but its better than nothing i suppose. If thats not the case then i will do the spanner idea.

Oh i have purchased another bike now, which is good but also annoying as i shouldn't have had to.

Thanks for all your support

Paul

Hi i have spoken to the owner and we have agreed they will return the bike with all the old parts on and still not running but no charge so just want it back now.

I have purchased a zx-6r ninja 1996 with 24000 miles on the clock she is lovely.

Has anyone had any experiences with these? i can't wait i think it'll be brilliant for my 40 mile a day trips and fun.

how do i attach a pic? i'll show you her.

Hi, ok i have got the fzr back two days ago (Finally) she was a bit worse for wear. The the garage have broken and crack the front and side fairing, fitted a front tyre to the rear, the radiator fan switch which doesn't turn the fan on and still doesn't run.

Well i spent about 45mins on her yesterday the fairing off, air box off charged the battery, checked the carbs as they were loose plumbed on some pipes that were undone. Suprise Suprise she started. i let her run for about ten minutes , no water out the back know real overheating (little hot but not over the top) but i am having trouble reving her above about 5000rpm she starts to die and cough and splutter a bit.

Any ideas i was thinking maybe dodgy carb? But i'm not sure. Or i thought he may have tried to do the timing as if she was a 400 is thats possible.

Please help

Thanks

Paul

I'd be looking into some free repairs if a shop f*cked my bike up like that. New plastic or the broken ones repaired and painted, the correct tires, and a fix for what I brought it in for!!!!

Check your fuel pump, if you don't have one (try and get one) and make sure your tank is full.

I don't want them anywhere near my bike ever again. I had another look over the bike today. I added carb cleaner and a fuel top up. i took the plugs out which were not very clean. But what i did notice was the second plug in from the right hand side (looking from the front) doesn't seem to seat properly when the ht lead sits on it it is raised a couple of mil. could this be the cause? she starts alot better a revs to 5000 happily but no higher. she hiss's and starts to drown i think. the other question what order do the leads go on because mine are labelled 1234 and fit in order 1234 at the moment i just didn't know if that was right? (again looking from the front 1234 from right to left.

You should go to your local motorcycle magazine and expose them, what crooks.

I totally agree. You've been taken for a ride.

You may not want to comfront them about it, but think of all the hassle you've been through with them... Any other new person to bikes that goes to the same shop is likely to experience the same pain. If anything, talk to a local magazine or authority for their sake.
