WONT IDLE!!!!! WONT REV!!!!

I would read this post for the setting of the idle screws. Sounds pretty bad that it wont idle at all unless at full throttle. Have you got the carbs sitting on the rubber boots properly ??? It would not idle if it hads bad air leaks...


Failing that, the carbs are seriously blocked in the fuel channels I would suspect...

 

i had a similar problem, turned out my exup cables where broken and the exup was staying closed

 

Mine was doing this when I first got it. The mechanic said that the carbi had flooded with fuel and couldn't beleive that it was idling.
Occasionally it would happen while when I stopped for a red light. And still does sometimes.

Depending on how bad it is if you leave your starter motor running for about 30 -40seconds with no throttle a couple of times it seems to come back to life. Alternativly find a hill and roll in second gear, hold the starter in and snap the clutch out and eventually it will make a different note.. sounds like a ducati under water haha. and returns to a ruff idle. Also from the left side follow your feul line from the fuel pump into the carbi. just below the hose there is a screw with finger grip. turn this clockwise about an 8th

and repeat.

This is something that i have reduced the effects of with fuel treatment like injector/carbi cleaner. I have no money left for further investigation but its most likely cause is crud in the needles / jets. hope this help I know how much it sucks to be stuck out in traffic while people yell out "your suppost to ride them not push em.."

 

it doesnt have an exup or exup cables? what year is your bike?

This what you need to do.
1. Buy new spark plugs.
2. Check float levels.
3. Adjust pilot screws (2 7/8 turns out).
4. Clean renew air filter (clean in hot soapy water).
5. Adjust idle screw.
6. Use minimal throttle when starting the bike, just a couple of millmeters throttle from closed (these bikes flood on start up very easily).
7. Best of all it can all be found on this website.
8. Have a beer.

To see if its the exup, down on the exhaust header manifold, take off the little silver cover on the left side, use some plyers (as it can get vey hot) and turn the exup valve so it is open, then try start the bike

if it starts YAY you need to sort out the exup issue, if not, try natas suggestions

other than that and what natas suggested, im out of ideas

 

The exup is very important in these bikes, it is also state of the art technology. Yamaha charge way to much for these cables, but like I said you will need them to get your bike running sweet. Also clean your carbies out and check diaphrams for cracks and reset everything as this is the major cause of all problems. Sounds as though you have your hands full building a bike from scratch. Check your wiring to make sure everything is where it should be. Have you done valve clearances as this could be another problem (once again could be expensive is you require shims). Best of luck.
