my bike is not working good at all wen am riding i cant give more than a quarter of the throttle and wen i put on the choke it works better what can possibly be the cause of that

I would have to agree, sounds like a serious fuel supply shortage. Also check fuel pump and fuel filter, but carbs would be a priority...

I have cleaned the carbs on several occasions and no difference but a mechanic told me it cud be the pump but am kinda confused how the pump works cuz wen i turn on the ignition i can hear it pumping in fuel and the bike will start fine and wen the bike is idling i can feel the pump pulsing at a slow rate am wondering if it is suppose to speed up wen i pull back on the throttle? or it stays pulsing at the same slow rate?

That problem of running lean is unusual. The pump will pulse faster as the fuel demand increases. They work on a spring pushing the piston to give the desired pressure and then the electric coil returns he (pulses) the piston to the recharge position to where the spring pushes the piston again after it has taken in a fresh load of fuel.

Run the pump thru a hose back to the tank to make sure there is a good flow.

The pump maintains fuel supply to the float bowl but should not pressurise the float bowl. Venturi action will then suck the fuel thru the jets. If it is running lean the jets are partly blocked, the float levels are low or there is an air leak somewhere (you are not running without the air filter?).

Hi Thynel,
Dave is on the right track, the reason why your bike runs better with the choke on is because it is introducing more fuel. Therefore you bike is running lean without the choke on. Your fuel pump sounds fine to me. You could have a batch of crappy fuel with all of the rain about at the moment. Check out the how to's on how to rectify this problem and get everything to factory specs (new spark plug, pilot screw position, needle clip height, and so on). Best of luck. Let us know what you did and if it worked or not.

just cleaning the carbs sometimes isnt enough, have you checked the float levels and balanced your carbs yet? what about the pilot screw position, needle clip height, etc?

I cleaned mine many time and still couldnt get mine to run right, i have learnt alot now but then i just took it to a mechanic and got him to do it, solved alot of performance issues

but thats just the problem man where i live there arent no bike mechanics here and if i have to bring one from a next country to fix that bike is a waste of time and probably money so mechanic is out a the question. but i dont seem to understand why is the bike going on like that it starts good in the mornings never haveto choke it or anything and ride off good but from i open up the throttle wide it just boggs down and wen i pull the choke it just boost out and run faster.

THYNEL - just a question or two - what type of fuel are you running.? Is it normal petrol or is it an ethanol mix?

What is your spark gap? (measure with feeler gauges)

Are your main jets slightly blocked, this is located at the bottom of the carb in the float bowls

http://www.dansmc.com/carbs.htm

Are you sure that the choke is not operating reverse to what you think?? turning on the choke increases the throttle opening slightly at idle..

here are a couple of pics of a FZR400 carb which is almost identical and text is in english

hey i think my carbs are not good at all.u see where the jet needle cums out the bottom of the carbs a bolt is there so the needle can go down in it and i think no fuel supposed to be going up through there but they have broken off wen i took them out to clean up the carbs and its like its flooding badly
