hey guys, nice site u got. i've been after a road bike for a while now but don't have a lot of cash to splash around, so i've found this 1989 FZR250. i've been to have a look at it and rode it. it needs new cluth plates but i can do that myself. it has an oil leak from the rocker cover gasket and the front brakes need bleeding or something cause they are real weak(need to pull the lever over half way before any real braking happens.) it has bout 50000k's on it. do u think it is worth it for under $2000.

and does anyone no who much a rocker cover gasket costs.

What makes you think that it needs new clutch plates?? is it the feel, sound or did the owner tell you??, the gasket leaking oil is a bit of a concern if its just the gasket cover then its a relatively cheap fix. And the brakes do sound like they need a bleed and probably get some pads at the same time.

For under $2000 you cant ask for a lot, and with 50 000 ks under the belt, with probably a fair amount of learner abuse (lack of oil changes, chain maintainence, over reving, etc.)

I would give it a complete overhaul (valves, carbs, air filter, oil filter, oil, brake fluid, brake pads, check the chain (tightening, lube, replacement), bearings, etc.)

the bike was on ebay and i won the auction yay! lol, and am getting the bike for $1425, i am going to pick it up on Saturday just need to find a friend with a ute.

um the owner told me that it was the plates, the clutch doesn't start to grab until the last inch of lever travel. it works fine when riding normally but if u get up it it slips. i read the washer trick on this site as well so when i get the bike i gunna have a good look at it and see how much meat is on the plates.

the seller sent me an email saying that he bled the brakes after i left and now they are a lot firmer so that hopefully fixes that problem. the pads are still over half good, and the rotors a still near new.

hopefully after the weekend i'll be able to know a bit more exactly wats wrong with it tho so thanks for your help already people.
