Hey Peeps.

Was just reading the FZR400 Manual (Engligh version) and was looking in the cooling section and noticed that it said the cooling system held 19L Which is a HUGE amount of coolant! Is this still correct in the FZR250? Does anybody know the rough amount that the FZR250 takes? When i flushed cooling system on the 250 all that i could get it too take was 900mm.....

Thanks in advance!

JB

1.56litres for a 3LN - reckon you missed a decimal point with the 400 figures..

Ah ok, thanks Dave. I did double check the manual and it deff says 19L zoomed all the way in, ehhe not too worry.. I believe mine only took 900ml but i have since found the radiator cap, its about half way down the bike under the tank on the right hand side of the bike (when sitting on it) The 20mm-22mm hose that runs from the radiator to the radiator cap looks as if it would hold a few hundred ml so this could be an explanation for my bike still getting warm, might also now try to get a new radiator cap like you recommended

OK, thanks Dave. I'll take another look tomorrow when the sun comes up. That gives me an idea where to look, tho I sure gave it a good search this arvo. So, you should be able to locate it without removing anything?

Just got back from a 150 km country blast, what fun. And even managed to stuff a garden salad and a few big chunks of garlic bread in the "storage compartment" on the way home

Well the FZR has a HUGE storage area compared to my SV.. I can get a pair of gloves and one CD in mine, and the tool kit does not reside in there either. I have a seat bag on mine so I can carry the wet weather trousers, camera, tow rope (for when the harleys break down) and a bit of food.

maxfacta, the radiator cap is located under neat the tank.. You will need to take out the seat to pivot up the tank however.. Just remove the compartment front (2 phillips screws) to access the seat bolt. Undo that, pull up the seat from the rear. Then on the back of the tank youll see a bolt going through a bracket.. Undo and remove the bolt in the bracket and the tank will lift up about 100mm, just be gentle as you have your fuel lines down there and your overflow. So just be gentle and careful mate..

When you lift up the tank its on the right hand side of the bike towards the back of the tank.

Alternatively you could always just trace out the radiator hose that runs out from the top of the radiator, just go up from the plastic 'T'

Hope that helps. If your still struggling let me know and ill hook you up with some detailed photos!

Cheers mate.

I had her apart today to investigate my fuel tap not working in the 'on' position. And there's the radiator cap, under the tank.

Seems to be quite central, not down the right side?
Anyway, it was nice to open it and see some bright green coolant swirling round in the neck of the tank.

Hey, no worries at all! It was good to know I had to take the tank off to find it.
Once I did, it was pretty bloody obvious!

yeah it does sort of stand out alot.. Have you tried filling the radiator from the radiator cap? Whenever i do it only seems to take about 100mm, Yet when i fill it in through the over flow/reservoir it will fill up and take the correct amount.. WEIRD!

The radiator cap is not the normal filling point. It would only be used if the system was drained. The overflow reservoir is where the level is maintained by adding water if it gets below the lower mark. The cooling system draws the water in from the reservoir when it cools down after use.

Yeah that is what i thought, however when i flushed and refilled my replacement second hand radiator it wouldnt fill from the radiator cap, the same story when i flushed my previous radiator.

....There's an overflow reservoir ?!

I've had the bike only for about 3 weeks. I just wanted to check the coolant level, and was pleased to see coolant when taking the rad cap off. So, no cause as of yet to try topping up.

Dave - SV650 - is that like the little brother to a Bandit? Sort of Suzuki's version of Honda's famous VTR I guess?

Overflow reservoir should be below the riders seat.

Sorry about being

I would say the SV is more like a small VTR as they are hardly a tourer like the Bandit..The GSX650 is marketed overseas in a naked form as a Smaller Bandit http://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/bike/bandit650/k9/ We only get the Sports/tourer models. The SV650 has about the same power as the GSX650 but weighs about 40KG less. http://www.suzukimotorcycles.com.au/bik ... x650f.html I guess that the estimated market share is not big enough to justify importing all the models.

The SV has been around since 1999 in both the S model and the naked. In 2003 they changed the frame and plastics and also released the SV1000 in both S and N. My son has the 1000N, Nice bike to ride as the ergonomics are a bit better. The extra HP and torque is good too.. It is different to mine to ride.

The 1000 is now discontinued but you can still get them in the V-Strom dual purpose tourer (DL1000).
