Hi Guys, Interesting problem with my fzr 250 3ln1.. Ive fitted a new radiator a while ago because the bike was over heating and then all the coolant would piss out the over flow etc.. So i change the radiator over and gave the whole system a flush out etc.. It was going great for weeks, never overheating, never overflowing.. The problem now is without the bike getting 'hot' its pissing out coolant from somewhere unknown, only whilst the bike is running... Let me say again the bike is not over heating, the bike is running at about 1/4 heat... Now when the bike stops and you turn it off there is a strong burning smell, almost like burnt cheese.. lol.. Any ideas guys? Cheers, JB
the temp gauge on your bike works off a sensor in your cooling system on your bike... if it has pissed all its water out and you run it... cause the sensor is not in water it will only show up a quarter on the temp gauge cause the sensor cant work properly out of liquid.. the smell you are smelling is your bike cooking off its head.. if its showing a quarter on the temp gauge its really probly passed the red.. fix your leak or you will be up for a motor.
Sounds like you might have either a leaking radiator cap or a blown head gasket. A radiator repair shop should be able to pressure test the cooling system to see if there is a leak/blown gasket.
For future reference... had the exact same symptoms with a mate's FZR, it turned out to be a faulty thermostat.
