Ive been looking around and although its possible, the r6 swap has a lot of cost and time involved. I was looking at the bike and it almost looks like with a few modifications (coolant bottle, luggage bar) the ducktail can be modified (jigsaw, dremmel) to appear more pointy and better looking. In my opinion the only let down on the fzr 3ln3 is its outdated tail, and i honestly think that the rest of the bike is quite attractive. This being said, has anyone had any experience with, or have any input/advice they can share to help get this project underway. I'm not the most bike competent person so anything will help, so far it looks like its possible if you remove a few things that are being covered by the proposed piece to cut.. thanks
Ive never done it myself, but its ones of the last things i plan to do to my fzr, once everything else is perfect ;] And i fully agree! I love the front half of the bike, but the tail is just a bit bulky for me If u start to make any progress keep us informed? <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s --> Tom :]
you realise that when you do this the tail will look VERY low. thats why the r6 tail conversion takes a while. you have to cut and weld it so that it is at a comfortable angle and dosnt look stupid. im working of making a totally new tail. it will actually be much easyer than cutting up an old one..
i would love to be able to make my own tail... But honestly, its one of those things i could REALLY not see myself doing and it ending up not looking right at all!
Yeh it's possible to mess your bike right up with some overly-exuberant customisation: http://sterlingmarine.net/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/Jacob_Bike_005.6480644.jpg !
What do you mean by low exactly? if anything wont it make it sit higher because im shaving off plastic from the underside of the tail? I had thoughts about making my own tail, just need some direction as to how other people do it. that bike is hot, im sure its airbrushed though..
as in... make a new subframe. its not very hard if you have welding gear. just gotta fit the battery and stuff in. and bodywork is pretty easy to make. i just made it them of fiberglass.
i dont. i make a card version then cover it and sand out the card. its not the 'real' way to do it but meh.. it works. and its much quicker. and then i get to see what its like and play around with it befor i make it solid. and its garuanteed to fit.
Hey thats a really good idea, so where do you source your card from? More like box cardboard or big sheets from art shops? im keen to try this so i appreciate your reply.
well ideally you should use modeling plastifoam (or whatever its called) but i just use cardbord. but it is tricky to get things perfectly even unless you make one then take a mould.
so basically cardboard, then fiberglass over the top? that sounds smart, i think that might save me some money repairing the big patch of plastic missing from the front
