i have just brought a new 3ln motor from a wreckers but it has an oil filter on the sump, the bike is a 1990 3ln1 the previous engine didn't have a filter, it just had a bolt with a screw in it. Will this engine still fit into the frame ?
You have acquired a 3LN-3 or newer engine; the 2KR and 3LN-1 series had the internal filters (in order to change which you have to remove yer frickin' exhaust...). There was a fellow about a year or so ago who successfully did a similar swap; I believe he had to massage his sidestand mount. Let us know!
well thats good, is there any one who knows if there is a difference in oil pressure or anything electronic that will be a problem?
Oil pressure should be a non-issue, as that's internal to the engine itself. The later (-6+) engines were derated (limited in power to 40PS), so ignition timing might be slightly different. It might be worthwhile to swap your original cams into the new engine. Is there any way to identify the year of the donor bike?
I put one of the newer engines in my bike. There is an issue - the oil pressure light, it works in reverse, so if it's on you have oil pressure.
also should mention, it's bolts straight in - I had to change one plug I believe, fuel pump I think - just a different type of connector. mine is a race bike so I have no side stand, so I had no issues there. Cheers
too much.. How hard is it going to be for a fit? The carbs are basicly the only salvagable part from the old motor.
Looking at the parts pictures it looks like the sumps are interchangeable between the motors. So you could have the early cartrige in sump or the screw on filter just by swapping the sump. Bob.
it was actually a motor from a zeal. just got it running today and bad news... looks like it will be going back to japan or where ever they got it from.
understatement.. its not running right alright.. what a mess <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt="" title="Sad" /><!-- s -->
Geez sorry to hear that mate, can you be more descriptive about how it is, maybe it is fixable. best of luck!
sure.. ill post in more detail maby tomoz. But it isnt fixable if it is its not worth doing it with this motor. even if it was fully done out new it would probs die before 1 year of running
