Hey guys, I haven't started my FZR in a while, and i went to get it started today the bike started spitting out petrol from underneath. It didn't start initially so i had to clutch start it, and it took about 4 attempts before it started. When i was revving it to get it warmed up i noticed the bike was spitting out a lot of petrol from underneath . This has never happened before would anyone be able to give me a diagnosis? Thanks Will
maby fuel line has perrished? or maby just come loose or somthing. if its been sat with fuel in for a while check the valve around the bottom of the fuel tank.
Yeah i sort of did a check on the fuel line underneath, and everything seems to be intact. Though I'm not 100% certain. I'll double check later on in the week.. Hmm things aren't looking too good with the fizzer atm..
I recently had a problem with the float in one of my carbies that stopped it from sealing properly. It caused the fuel pump to constantly pump fuel into the bowl and fload the carbie resulting in fuel pissing out of the overflow hose that clips to the side of the air box. Can you see where the petrol is coming out of?
Yeah! I'm 85% certain that the petrol is coming out from the overflow hose. I'll double check that when I've got time, because I do remember turning off the fuel tap the 1st time it did it. The tried clutch started it with the tap off, and revved it and it seemed to have stopped the problem only to realize I've forgotten to turn it back on. So it maybe a problem with one of my floats? What did you do to fix your problem?
Hopefully it is just as bit of dirt in the float valve. Take the bottom off the carb that is flooding, Remove the float, I think by sliding out it's pivot pin. The float valve needle may fall out at this point. The float valve will then be visible, then unscrew the float valve seat out. Turn the petrol on to flush any rubbish out. Clean the needle and seat. Look for wear on the needle, replace if needed. Once reassembled test by holding the float up and seeing if the petrol stops coming out.
I went for the lazy mechanic solution I found on another forum. I loosened the top screw of the float bowl cover just slightly (so no fuel leaked out) and tapped it with a piece of wood while the engine was running. It was enough to dislodge whatever was jamming the float and bike ran fine. Cleaned the air filter as well just for good measure as I noticed how bad it was getting while I had the airbox off.
