Hey all. Ok, so I am totally hooked on my 3LN3 and want to make her as unique and special as can be. Below is a list of things I am planning on doing to her, and if anybody has any other ideas or input to contribute feel free to share it. Some things I am doing are simple, others are probably going to fail. Some are "i wish" kind of thoughs

Let the journey begin.

Basics:

Iridium spark plugs (will this do anything?)
Sinstered front brake pads-Metal Gear
Paint front/rear calipers + brembo brake cylinder
Braided brake lines-possibly titanium to save weight- Hel-Performance
lowering fron sprocket to 15tooth for better accelleration. (quicker off of the line )
brighter headlight globes-blue tint 8000k type
Ceramic coating headers-"Jet-Hot" -$225 for sterling coating
Polish up all alloy parts

More complicated stuff: (for me at least)
Bolt-on or slip-on exhaust-mainly for sound/looks (can you adapt one with a different connector diameter?) I want something carbon fiber cause it looks good and is lighter. Not sure if I would have to re-jet for this.
floating wave disk rotors (worth it? or just solid wave rotors?)
Replace clutch plates(if they need it) easy to do, but less of a priority as they feel fine atm.
Tail conversion- R6 type look. May try making my own, but will probably just get something from a wrekers and go from there. (I will not be taking pillons)
Carbs-Clean,Clean,Clean,Clean,Clean,Clean,Clean,Clean,Clean,Clean,Clean,Clean...... Clean.
Then balance them, check float levels, re-jet if needed. (I read somewhere that if you are getting 180-200km per tank you should not touch the carbs. Is this true?)
Complete paint job in "pearlesent"(spelling) white with neons underneath fairings.

"I wish" stuff: May try it eventually though.
Custom exhaust system (bigger headers, custom pipe etc)A no-no because of cost and it being not really needed unless I wanted to race seriously.
EFI system- ''nuf said.
Cold air induction/RAM air-read about a CBR 250 doing this. 5 try later he sort of has it working ok.
FZR 400 carbie or complete engine drop-in. - It wouldn't really be a 250 anymore if I did that...

Let me know your thoughts or suggestions!

As I progress through my list, I will update with suppliers/manufacturers that I used and costs I incurred.

Ride safe.

If you get 180-200km out of a tank and it runs good, then leave carbs alone.

Suspension wise, I put gold valve emulators and stiffer springs in my Suzuki front forks. Fzr would benefit from similar mod..
Bought from here http://www.suspensionsrus.com.au/2006/i ... &Itemid=30
and look for racetech emulators.. Cost me around $600..
Best ring the dude and talk to him about it. Recommended..

easiest thing for the forks would be to get the front end of the new ninja250 as it fits into the block without any spacers or anything. and theyre USD. so lots better.
just a little bit less turning. but not really a problem.

and for the exhaust i would say get an ixil hyperlow can. its amazing. and looks awsome. its a 50mm pipe and i think that the fzr is a 45mm pipe so all you need is a collor to slip on.

Thanks deadbirds. So with the pipe, I can just use a collar if the can is a different diameter? One question with this. If I pound a can with a slightly smaller pipe than the 45mm or whatever on the fizzer and i connected via a collar, would this inhibit performance at all due to the reduced diameter?

If it did, would it be hard to mod the internal through pipe on the can and the connector to a larger diameter?

Reason is because im looking at this can on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Carbon-Fiber...AU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories#ht_3229wt_911
or
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BigBore-Carb...AU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories#ht_5101wt_911
(i have a weakness for carbon fibre)

Go the hyperflow, those things are the jessica alba of exhausts.... only reason i didnt get it was cos i didnt think about getting a collar and bracket made up.

i dont think that putting on a slightly bigger can with a collar would make a lot of differance to peformance. might run a tiny bit richer. but nothing noticable really because of the exup managing exhaust flow.
the hyperlow are a 50mm pipe.
im taking my exhaust off today so i'll take a load of measurements. =p

Hey army lad. Dont get too excited. Are you new to bikes???

Just get it tidy and keep it that way.

Only takes one brain fade and the whole bike is worth less than $500 and it wont matter what you have done to it, its just another smashed hard to get parts for gray import.

The dropping in a 400 motor idea. Just buy a 400 straight up.

If you want heaps more herbs, buy a RGV250 or KR1-S or TZR250.
In relaity not that much more poke, but they are wood in your pants awesome to ride.

I have to agree with Bob. There's no point trying to put a 400 in the 250 frame when you could just buy a 400 with all of the uprated components for about the same price you would pay to get the 400 engine in the 250 anyway. But if you're looking at a 400 you may as well get a 250 stroker. Way easier to work on, smell brilliant, and best of all powerband...
But if you're hell-bent on doing the fzr up, suspension and shedding some pounds is the best bet. Wringing any more power out of a high strung 20k rpm motor is not going to be beneficial to your wallet or the poor wee engine.

Measured the exhaust pipe where the muffler slided onto it. 52mm, give or take a mm either way.

Thanks Bob. haha, yeah I am new to bikes. Got my L's say 2months ago. Most of the mods I want to dao are not really for more power, more for looks and an iddy bit more power. Im more than happy with the power already tbh. Just want her to be the best she can be. I plan on having her as my bu\ike for a looooong time yet.
True what you said about the 400motor. Godd to have that idea squashed (in a good way) before I even bothered looking into it seriously though I do plan do get a second Bigger bike after a while. leaning towards a gixxer 750. (mate has a gixxer1000 and its just too crazy to really need all that power :p)

I do plan to do these mods over time, and nothing is set in stone. Also doint the cheap ones first so if i do have a "brain fade" it wont \be too bad bike-wise. Atleast to begin with...

Awesome idea about the 2stroke Mate! i have hear some pretty cool stuff about them being great bikes to ride and work on.

Haha, I knew I had forgotten something. Im definitely gonna be mainly focusing on stripping any excess weight off of the bike.

Thanks for all the input so far everyone!

dont get a 750 sports bike for a first big bike. you will kill yourself unless you are an amazingly good rider...
the reason they stopped using 750s for gp was because they had too much power and not enough weight to keep it down.
get a 600. insurance is a lot cheeper and they have perfect power to weight.

Oooooooooook. So I have bought an end can(first one in the link I posted) and should hopefully arrive before too long. All other mods are on hold until I get my bike running alot better than she is currently. I have figured out that she gets 140km till reserve at highway cruising. I think this means she is running very rich? So time to clean and tune my carbs. (+plus I will have to pay a mech to balance them for me as i dont have a vacume set thing)
Putting it off for the time being however as I'm worried that I will bugger something up if I take out the carbs and will be without my bike for an extended period of time. Is there any way of knowing if i need to replace any parts before opening her up? Time for me to hit google and the search bar on this site i guess.

Updates to follow.
