Got my can put on two days ago. Looks sweet! Got it done at a shop for $90 cause a straight pipe connection didn't look right so i needed a kink put in it. Top job and I'm happy with the end result. She burbles a little bit at idle which i loooooove! And is a bit louder too I want to rip out some of the baffling , but im gonna hold off for a week or two and see how she sound as is for a while.

Also got my headers sandblasted yesterday ($40), and am heading out now to get some primer, colour, and finish paint to make em purdy ;) Gonna go the VHT flame proof stuff as its got the best temp rating i can find and all the exhaust shops I called about doing them in anything better didn't know a single thing about painting the friggen things! Best answer i got was "Na mate, we only sell the spray cans..."
Not doing the jet-hot coating due to lack of funds.

Bike is not running rich like i thought previously either. She seems to be getting about 130-135 km per full tank. (so the calculator says) ....is this too lean? I do run her at the lower rev range when going on the highway (8-10,000rpm) This might be giving the better fuel economy.

Any thought on the running lean issue would be appreciated.

Pics to come.

With mixed riding (highway & backroads) and mainly sticking to speed limits, you should get around 180-200k

With the Baffling on the pipe, is it a straight thru pipe? if so, rather than rip stuffing out, my understanding is that the tighter an exhaust is packed, it will be louder and also "may" give more horesepower

As far as fuel economy, before she was retired, my fizzer was using about 18-20 litres to 100kms!!

I reckon you mean 40 Miles to the Gallon?? 40 M/L would get you about 600k on a tank. I would think 20-25 K/L would be good for an FZR.

have people actually got 20-25 km/l on this forum in the past? a search on the mileage topics seems like 15km/l is the norm.

13km/l is as good as i can get on my with 3 turns out on the setscrew.

do you think its worth it to get a mechanic to tune to carb for me? I'm pretty sure the float for my carbie is too high, but i never thought that extra bit of fuel height matter that much.

the best that i ever got on my bike was 14km/l a tank on highway.

The only adjustment for economy or power (not both, you have to balance it one way or the other) is float height and jet size. Adjustment screws are for idle mix only.

18/20k per litre should be normal for the FZR

Once you install or modify an exhaust or intake, you have put your bike into a leaner condition that will eventually destroy your engine due to heat from running lean. If you notice any popping, you are extremely lean.
