Hi everyone i'm Mick and just joined,i brought a 1987 FZR250 2KR on Sunday with the intention of using it as a winter 'hack'.I got it cheap @ £250,it came as a rolling chassis but everything there. The previous owner told me the engine started but couldn't engage gears,i removed the clutch and gear behind it to check selector drum and selector arm ratchet and springs were ok,which they all are.I managed to get 1st to 5th gears ok it won't go into 6th and locks the output shaft when selecting 2nd so strip down will be required.I have purchased a full set of working gears on shafts off Ebay so i will check and then fit them.I should mention i was a time served motor vehicle technician so stripping and rebuilding engines holds no fear for me although if i do run into any problems i won't hesitate to ask.. <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->
This is how she looks at the moment..

Welcome to the madness! Those are some nice looking machines; thanks for sharing.

The annoying thing about FZR transmissions is that you have to tear the engine completely down to get at them. There are two crankcase bolts under the cylinder block, so the head and jugs have to come off.

    Good luck!

I think they would still do parts like those. There is a PDF file somewhere on this site where you can get part no's from. The 2KR engine is the same as the 3LN1 engine if I am remembering right, it has the internal cartridge filter rather than the spin on canister.

I just ordered a genuine new air filter for my 3LN3 - as good as £50! At least I can convert the spare into a cleanable reuseable one now though......

The 3LN file does list parts for all 3LN models despite saying 3LN6
