I bought a 1987 fzr250 2KR model a few weeks ago because my car dropped its oil.. but this bike has been giving me alot of problems but i love the sound and 45hp on a 250.

OK so I spent about 300 on getting the carb cleaned and tuned hoping it would fix all my problems. The guy said someone had welded a float arm back together and there was alot of crap inside and basicly the carb is worn. He put 4 new rubber O-rings in. He said the pilot screw is turned in all the way because its so worn but thats where it only wants to idle.

It runs better but it seems to flood itself if I give it alot of gas quickly, but even slowly creeping it past 10k it will slightly die on and off not majorly but the power is not crisp there's obviously a problem.

My question is, is this due to worn parts or bad tuning. He said its the best its going to get.. and that I should sell it, hes probably right.

Would hotter plugs help the slight flooding in high revs.

Its also started to steam and smoke white with a light tint of blue when starting cold, goes away after 5 minutes. Some days its just steam and some days its just white smoke <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt="" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

I'm thinking of buying another carb for parts and taking the carb apart myself and building another carb from the two but i'm unsure about the balancing thats required, this bike is my only transport.

Are there any manuals for these bikes that are in English??

Wow sounds like the carbs are well on their way out- maybe he's done the best he can with everything he was given. it's possible checking float levels could help, but it sounds like they are pretty cactus......

The white smoke sounds like a blown head gasket. You aren't going to tune around that.

There are no manuals in English. There are the occasional rumours that the brother of an ex-girlfriend of a second cousin saw one once, but no-one will come forth and admit to laying hands on a copy. A fellow here was trying to work on translating the manual a while back, but I think he got overwhelmed.

Carb and head gasket.. great. Can the head gasket be replaced while the motor is in the frame? can someone with basic knowledge and tools do the job, i've done dirt bikes and an old royal enfield before but never touched a modern jap road bike.
