Howdy amigos
i own a 1991 fzr250 3ln5.
just wondering how far you guys (and girls) are getting on a full tank of gas.
Im getting 260km on 91 octane with about a cup sized puddle left on bottom of tank before i fill up. doing mostly 70% town and 30% highway riding. its 95% flat roads (Christchurch) also that's riding conservatively. i typically accelerate in the 5200-6200rpm range and cruise in 6th as much as i can. my sprockets are standard 56tooth rear 17tooth front, 100kph =9000rpm.
just curious to how much variation there is out there. obviously riding style and terrain have major affect on figures.
are my results typical. also has anyone every tried to verify Yamaha's claim of 51km/liter @50kph in 6th gear. a fair way off my 15km/L. (my figure includes estimate potential of residual fuel in tank that isn't used)
http://www.fzrarchives.com/fzr250/FZR250.pdf
On a 17.8 liter tank Yamaha's figure calculates out to a whooping 907.8km on one tank!!! i only dream of those type of figures.
I take it they were the most favorable conditions when they did the test like it was a just run in engine air temps were cold, engine hot, tyre pressures doubled, completely flat straight road going north to south and a slight tail wind with a tiny 40kg Japanese test rider in the full tuck position all the way.

89' 2KR

about 220 km on a full 12 litre tank, though often less if i rev it higher. and that's using 95 octane fuel

I just bought an '89 FZR, and with highway riding (100-120km/hr, 9500-11000RPM, 91 octane) I get around a 200km range. Not sure if that's bad for an FZR tho?

That would be about close to normal.

Hmmm, I'm only getting 160 ish kms still (~6l/100kms), even after the carb balance etc. Hitting reserve at ~9.8 litres too and filling up either just before or at this point, so I would think my 3ln1 tank would only be 12L total?

I have a 4L Ford Falcon XR6 and I swear it uses less fuel than my FZR on a average week. About 140km before I have to flick over to reserve and start looking for a gas station.

How much do you normally put in when you fill up? I think I can do better the more I run the bike in/get used to it but I'm ages off anything like that...

that my best I've ever done mind you i normally top up round the 250-255km mark. I always fill it right up. $28nzd was my last bill. currently $2.12 a litre (06/12/2012) so that calculates out to 13.20 litres but remember i still had a little bit on the bottom before i filled up (cos i didn't push to 270 odd km) and i didn’t completely stuff the tank full when i filled up so estimating for those two factors the tank should hold round 16 litres like the manual says.

Hmm ok, I'm putting in 10 liters after reserve has been on for about 20 kms or so...
Anyway, also getting about 15km to your ~20km a litre. Which is a significant difference - anyone know of differences between the 3ln1 and the 3ln2+ models that may result in the large difference?

About 4.5l/100km when cruising, 6l/100km around town (driving quite hard but not too much) and around 8l/100 during spirited driving (trying to keep up with 600cc+ bikes).

907.8 km on a 17.8L tank would suggest that the test bike either had a custom tank or an FZR 1000 tank strapped to it

Wow now you're starting to get into the older thread's, this one was last posted in just over 6 year's ago. lol
Have a look at the date's before you post your reply

I think the standard 3LN tank is 12 litre's, although i have seen 14 litre's posted before,
So when they were brand new they got 50km per litre 3LN1, 48km's per litre 3LN3/3LN5, and 51km per litre in the 3LN6/3LN7 bike's when they were ridden at an average speed of 50km/h in 6th gear.

Best i have done with my 3LN3 is around 320km's on a tank, mainly highway riding

I know I'm posting in older threads. The way I see it, there's nothing wrong with reviving these older topics.
