Finally got my bike running and out on the road after a lot of screwing around. Now I'm just sorting out some little issues. The bike doesn't seem very quick. Pretty slow getting to 100, and I can;t get it to go past 13k rpm. Once it gets to around 12, it starts to struggle and it doesn't want to go any higher. It's also having a little trouble idling. I'm keeping the idle around 3k rpm, as any lower causes it to stall too easily when trying to take off from the lights. Any ideas where to start? Valve clearances have been done, cylinders balanced, new plugs. It also struggles at 1/4 throttle.

My only thought is that I removed the fuel pump and it is now gravity fed. Could it be running out of fuel at higher rpm? I know the earlier FZRs had no pump so I assumed having no pump on a 3LN would be ok.

Why did u remove the pump?
I would think its struggling to get enough fuel thru at max revs and when pulling hard during acceleration.

    Changed the fuel filter?
Checked inside the tank for crud?....the fuel outlet has internal filters.
    Choke working correctly?

    Serviced the exup?

Does "cylinders balanced" mean carbys balanced?

Take a good look at the spark leads and the caps......unscrew the caps and look at the ends of the leads.....the wires looked ok on mine but I snipped about 6/7 mm off the ends so the cap had something new to screw into. (dont mix up the leads)

From memory I removed the pump and it seemed to run a bit better when I was having a lot of problems a while ago. I can try refit it and see if it still works. I think it may have some kind of blockage in it.

Carbies are balanced, fuel filter is new, tank is clean, and I think the leads are ok after checking them not too long ago.

91 RON, although there is a bit of 98 in there at the moment and it didn't seem to make much difference between the two

Had a look at the exup and it seems that the cables were on backwards, so that is all lined up properly now. Running much better at idle and lower revs, but still struggling once it gets to 13k. I tried putting the pump on, and it sounds like the thing works. The bike ran for a little while with it connected, but eventually died and I couldn't get the thing to start again. The battery appeared to be dying quite quickly with it connected. Does the pump require a fair bit of battery power?
