Just wondering if anyone has tried to fit a r6 rear shock to a 2kr. From what I can find they measure about the same and both have eye and eye ends.
so could be a possible swap?

The bike weight would be similar too. Good luck with it..

I'll ask my local suspension guru. He would know.

Last year he fitted a heavier spring to the OEM rear shock on my 2KR because it was dragging the EXUP box through 1 particular corner at Wakefield Park. Putting in the heavier spring has made a differerence, but a good R6 shock would be a massive improvement over the stock piece of crap I would think.....

how would a 5mm longer shock affect the bikes performance. I have read in other posts that you can make dogbones but unfortunately my 2kr doesn't.

It may be possible to adjust the spring preload to the end up with the same rise height. Then it is just a matter of whether the length variation causes suspension travel restrictions when fully compressed.

I know this thread is old but I think it's useful to share anyways. I was thinking about fitting a R6 shock on my 1987-88 2kr and it won't fit.

The early 2kr and the 3hx have a quite different rear shock set up. The dogbones are completely different and don't attach at the same place on the swingarm, and the connecting end on the shock itself is different (on the early 2kr it's and "eye" at both ends). So, a modern R6(R) shock won't fit on the early 2kr. Some older R6 have more similar shocks (with eye ends) but I don't know about their lenght and spring rate.

I read that for all the FZR250s the spring rate is around 700lb while the R6 has around 530-550lb due to different geometry, so it may actually give a softer ride.
