    Ok ill start by shedding some light on how it started. Was riding home one arvo and it decided to just progressively die on me, with revs just died and backfired and carried on then wouldn't start. I left it on the side of the road till I could get it home, once home it started again but I decided to investigate anyway.

    I found the fuel pump was buggered so I thought this may have been the problem, so I put a new fuel pump on and was runnin like a dream. So I took it for a ride and 5 mins down the road started doing the same thing just dies in the arse and starts backfiring and carrying on. Only difference is after a couple mins of winding over it starts again and procedes to to continue this pattern.

    Ive got no idea what it could be as im not too familiar with these old bikes only really cars, im mechanically minded and have looked at everything I thought it could be and got no idea. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

    Well I know its defiantly fuel related as I worked out when I cycled the key which ran the fuel pump it would run again. So I got the shits and wired the fuel pump to a switch mounted on the handle bars. So as Im riding up hills I hit the switch or starts feeling dodgy i hit the switch for a few seconds and away it goes again no issues. So im guessing its a carby float fuel starving issue. But for now just forcing fuel in via the pump will do lol.

    Ok so maybe it didnt fix it. Riding home yesterday I get about 2 mins from work and the bike dies. With 5 to 10mins of cranking it goes again. Same thing today only this time it wont start. I tried chargine the battery, cleaned the plugs, checked for spark and was good. Im ready to hurl the pos off a cliff its doing my head in. Any suggestions would be great at this point in time.

    It may be the fuel pump is faulty and cutting out when it gets hot.
    If you have over half a tank you can run without the fuel pump, just take it out of the fuel line.

    Also sounds also like the battery may not be charging properly.
    FZR's have an issue where the ignition module will cease functioning when the battery gets low. The bike will crank over when the starter is pressed but no spark.
    When the bike is left for a while the battery may recover enough volts to allow it to fire again.
    Check the charging circuit <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3420#p25777">viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3420#p25777</a><!-- l -->

    Have you cleaned the tank? The outlet screen? The fuel filter? The carbs? You have a fuel starvation problem - clean out the crap that's blocking your fuel system.

    Tanks been cleaned, has no filter screens in the tank but I put new fuel hoses from tank to tap and then tap to filter and a brand new filter last week. With new hose to fuel pump then to carbys. So no blockages there. Next step is pulling the carb bowels off to have a look. I had them off about 4 months ago for a clean out but ill be pulling them apart again this weekend to have a look.

    If you have no tank screens, then you have no Reserve. Whether the petcock is set to Main or Reserve, you'll drain the tank dry.

    Yeah I know that. I never usually let it go below a 1/4 of a tank of fuel anyway so its not that its running out. I know its gotta be something in the carbys.
