    Hi!

    Brief history, i was chasing an r6 for some 20km or so cruising at speeds of 150~160km/h on very very short gearing - 58T rear sprocket, so we can imaging i was revving my pretty little 2kr engine near the limiter <!-- s:biker4: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/th_Biker_4.gif" alt=":biker4:" title="Biker 4" /><!-- s:biker4: --> <!-- s:bigmachgun: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/th_Big_Machine_Gun.gif" alt=":bigmachgun:" title="Big Machine Gun" /><!-- s:bigmachgun: -->

    then things went wrong, my engine started to develop a loud noise but was still running and had some fight in it, plus smoke was belowing from the exhaust - the kind you see from fried piston rings.

    The noise reported is Very similar to this thread : <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3764">viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3764</a><!-- l -->

    I've already conducted Thoracic surgery to the specimen and low and behold. below are the results.

    Valve clearance :
    reading as 1-2-3-4 in mm
    exhaust : .33 .33 | .234 .234 |.35 .35| .48 .48 | - nominal values .20~.30mm
    Intake : .279 .279 | .229 .260 | .09 0.00 | .17 .14 | -nominal values .10~.20mm

    Piston ring clearance : .9~1.00 mm - beyond specification <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://attachments.fzr250.com/Dave/chapter05c_pistons.pdf">http://attachments.fzr250.com/Dave/chap ... istons.pdf</a><!-- m --> - page 6

    No : 3 piston : huge up-down play est 2~3mm - suspecting bigarm bearing toasted <!-- s:angel: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_angel.gif" alt=":angel:" title="Angel" /><!-- s:angel: -->
    if engine is cranked (via the stator with wrench) when piston 2 reaches TDC, piston 3 looks to be missing a few mm of height

    i have yet to open the crankcase. unfortunately, Im the kind of asian that is not able to read japanese <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    I was after if anybody knew the diameter of the Journal(Crank pin?) the bigarm connects to.

    I also wanna share the seller i found selling the goods.
    here is his message to me for the parts :

    the total price is US$138.5

    <!-- s:ditto: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/th_Ditto.gif" alt=":ditto:" title="ditto" /><!-- s:ditto: --> heres the link to the supplier - lots of good stuff.

    I was shocked at the Prices, these are replacement (non oem) parts that im really finding hard to resist. i bought my engine for 500usd roughly. most likely if chose to go oem, it would be worth more than how much i bought the engine.

    please please. those measurements, i hope you know of, i can place the orders until i know which ones i'll need - or if i need to visit the machine shop to have the journals resurfaced. <!-- s:mad: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_mad.gif" alt=":mad:" title="Mad" /><!-- s:mad: -->

    Oh btw - any inputs on ceramic resurfacing? a ceramic augmented 1hx engine - bank breaking very awesome 250. aye?

    here is an example : <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://precision.ph/ceramic.htm">http://precision.ph/ceramic.htm</a><!-- m -->

    OK - I read with interest the prices and availability. A few years ago parts were non-existant for these bikes.

    Unfortunately I would suspect the crankshaft big end journal for the cylinder 3 is probably damaged and any successful rebuild would depend on being able to repair the big end journal or replace the crankshaft.

    Good luck

    Yeah, you definitely killed the bearing. Once you get the engine apart, you can inspect the conrod and crank pin, but I'd wager there's gonna be some ugly scarring. Don't bother trying to save the conrod (if it's damaged); pitch it and get a new(er) one.
    The crank can probably be saved, but turning, welding it up, then grinding to size is work for a specialty shop. As for what size - measure the crank pin next to it!

    Lesson learned - don't hold max revs on a tired engine with old oil ... <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->
