Have you actually tested your battery? If a cell is almost dead could be that... especially given it seems to happen intermittently when you're starting up from having stopped. Just because it's new doesn't mean you haven't overcharged it by keeping it on the trickle so regularly and buggered it.

If it doesn't start from a roll that could also be it because you're getting insufficient spark. I had a bandit with compression issues and we got it started from a push with some effort but it still ran... motor's spinning fast enough you can run them (not well, but at least they run).

Otherwise probably starter motor as has been said.

Just like to thank all you guys for input and Grey for supplying the starter motor and oil plug!
Kicked it over for a few minutes to pull the fuel through and she revved like a bewdy :)

    Back on the road!

what sort of trickle charger are you using,a lot of trickle chargers are for larger batterys not m/c batterys ,we only want about 2 amps or less otherwise you can cook the battery even on trickle

I have a dual (self adjusting) trickle I bought several years ago from repco. It's designed for both car and motorcycle batteries. Wasn't much like $35 or something.
