I also just bought a CBX250 87' last month to cafe. Seems i not the only one finding manuals hard to come by. I have read that the engine is the same for XL/XR 250's... Anyone know if that is true.

And yes from what Ive read it has the XL/XR engine

The Honda CBX250RS was a motorcycle first sold by Honda in May 1983 in Japan as their new 250cc sports bike with a view to replacing the popular CB250RS. The engine was based on the XR series with particular links to the XR350 bottom end, including a six speed gearbox and the same oil pump. The stroke is also the same, but the bore reduced to bring the capacity down to 249cc.

the engine may be the same but the chassis is a different thing to the cbx250rs, also for valve clearance these are other values, check Kirk's cbx250 owners manual

Hey mate i also have a 87 cbx. I have done a some decent research over the last 5years with my bike and the engine is based off the exact same xr250r from 86 to 1995 now there was a difference with the xr only visual as im aware and that is where the side of the cylinder head on the cbx and xr had a sanded air fins which they changed after 89 or so but its all the same between.
Apart from starter and decompression valve.
