fork seals are easy but take time and care. first time around allow 2 hours a leg. 2nd one much quicker.

I can talk you through fork seals... pretty easy job actually. I should do a write-up here now I've done it a couple of times. This video will give you all the info you need. Hint: Use hose clamps not the u bracket as they won't slip as much when you get to making the seal driver.

As for knocking, that's typically not good news mate. Put a screw driver on the ear lobe and put the metal part on the engine. If it's coming from the bottom, pretty bad news you've probably done a bottom end which is a pain in the rear to fix. The alternative would be from the cylinders which is also not good news as that's piston slap. I'd be more inclined to think bottom end though... I know how to do it but you have to tear down the engine and you may be on a parts hunt if the clearances are out. Don't know how easy it is to find oversize bearings for an old bike... none the less see where the knocking is coming from first...

    Welcome.
The knocking could be your cam chain. Have you checked the tensioner and valve clearances?

Be careful with the RSE parts, some of them are slightly different.
