Hey guys! So I ended up going a little crazy and purchased four ZXR250 A models to completely strip and restore. All bikes were purchased as a complete running package even though in the photos I have partially striped some. This thread will be my progress. The plan is to build 3 out of the four bikes, two of which will be put aside for myself and my brother, one bike will be sold, and the other parted out. Will try to update you all as often as possible. Cheers
My suggestion is to buy lots and lots of 7.48mm shim kits for the valves. You will probably need them if the motors have stopped running due to tight valve clearances.
That is a decent collection you have. Should you need an engine......I have one, just putting it out there. Good luck
This will be a fun thread to watch Mizuna if you have the forks out at any stage could you measure the length from axle centre to top of fork tube please. Then I can add it to the database. http://www.litetek.co/Guide_USD_ForkDatabase.html Pictures would be really nice too because then it is verified. Like this one that an R1 owner sent cheers Blair
Biggest problem I see with the ZXR's are cam chains and cam chain tensioner, fuel and vacuum line cracks and breaks, rusty tanks, NO in line fuel filters, dirty carbs (because no inline filters), holes in the exhausts and blown fork seals.... that's all I can think of right now.. But let us all know
GooD luck with the new parts that are not reuseable one bikes trying but four your crazy or my new buddy should u pull of lol were u locate i dare say Asia would be a lot easier for parts but Australia is rare even a tank is like a big find ive been after a manual that is for the a serious serious but unable to read Japanese I'm finding frustrating plenty on 91 onwards i no its not much difference but I find not having a get spare or new parts to fall back on I got to get it right first job not by try and error
Old frayed wiring and always need idle tweaking putting a aftermarket inline filter helps a lot I found
Sorry for the lack of updates guys. Currently in my uni semester so very busy and have not been working on the bikes. So far I have completely stripped 3 bikes down to the bare frame. In hindsight it probably would have been better to just work on one at at time, but I wanted to sort the parts by best condition. I'm sort of pondering where to start. Would you guys recommend polishing the frame or getting it powder coated? Additionally would you recommend re-wrapping the wiring harness while it is out? Thanks in advance
Powder coat! Also definitely rewrap the harness ! Also if you have any akropovic or mussari exhausts in there I would love to purchase one ! OR yoshimura
I would re-wrap the harness if the existing tape is shot, please do use proper harness tape , not electrical tape. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wiring-H...205583?hash=item1a0ca3b74f:g:xyQAAOSwUV9WoI7x As for an exhaust, Tyga have a couple for sale - see http://tyga-performance.com/site/product_info.php?products_id=1529
