Hi have fitted a 2nd hand engine as previous one had water and oil in cylinders, new engine started and ran fine, upon 2nd riding of bike - I missed 2nd gear, over revved bike slightly seemed a little doey during ride only rode for about 5 mins - bike stopped 50m from home coasted home thinking it was out of fuel - got home had half a tank of fuel bike now refuses to start fuel pump is working and pumping fuel - any ideas greatly appreciated. Hubby is mechanically minded, is willing to pull engine to check timing etc. any help would be appreciated as mentioned.. the engine that has just put in is a 2nd hand engine with 85 000 kms on it

Check the timing and the valve clearances.

Don't discount the carbies. Could be a blocked hose, jet, or filter.

Check for fuel flowing from fuel tap (blocked tank filter), from fuel line at carbs (blocked in line filter) and tank cap or air breather line. When you have good fuel flow at the carbs, then consider a carb strip and clean. If still problem, check valve clearances, spark plugs and leads, coils, even the kill switch can sometimes be a problem.
