So I'm upgrading to a big boy bike, so I borrowed a friends ZX6R for a few days, and let him ride around on my ZX2R. He ended up putting E85 in my tank and I was wondering what sort of impact this will have on my bike?
E10 isn't all that bad. The biggest problem is if you let the bike sit. In just a short while it can gum up carbs. E85 is a different ball game. I believe you'd have to re-jet at a minimum to handle it. Another issue with E85 is rubber components produced before 2000 are not going to stand up to E85 for very long (i.e. expect all of your o-rings to fail, possibly even fuel line)
id siphon out as much as possible, refill the tank to dilute it with non ethanol fuel and go for a solid 200km ride to get it all through. id also flip a **** at the guy who put e85 in my tank, but that part's up to you
http://motorbikewriter.com/is-ethanol-suitable-for-motorcycles/ I'd say get it out if you can. Dilute whatever is left down with a normal fuel. No comment on the person who thought E85 was a good idea, that's up to you to sort out.
drain the tank NOW and drain carby bowls.do not ride tooo far as you will melt plugs and POSSIBLY damage the pistons.to run e85 you need a total rejet of carbies and new fuel lines and gaskets.kick your ex friends backside and do not lend bike ,car or woman.
2 strokes love it.... but I forgot to turn the fuel tap off and run the carbs dry. walked into the shed and could smell fuel. It had dissolved the rubber tips of the carb needles and the exhaust was full of petrol.
ethanol is a no no in older vehicles that use any rubber or alloy in fuel system.you have learnt the hard way. it corrodes alloy and degrades rubber. can also cause melted pistons. avoid the crap.
Mmmm I would say don't run it,just clean the system when finished. No different to running methanol. Biggest advantage is its cold.Oh and you can go big on the compression ratio. If your chasing hp you'll no doubt start playing with alternate fuels.
