Hi all joined as I am looking to start riding and after some advice looking to buy a gpx unregistered and cheap but upon revs check it shows up as a zzr of a different yr could it be that compliance plate has been put on a stolen or written off gpx or is this the case with all gpx that they are zzr s in the eyes of rms
Since 2008, the bike is marketed as the Ninja 250R in all markets. It is also referred to by its platform designation, EX250, to which a generational suffix is attached. In the United States, previous models (EX250-E/F/G/H) were already being marketed as members of the Ninja family of sport bikes, while outside of the U.S. the bike was known variously as the ZZR-250, ZX-250, or as the GPX-250R. One of the earliest models, the EX250-C, was given the name GPZ-250. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ninja_250R) Build date and compliance date are different things ..... and can be years apart with grey imports And whats on the records with the transport/roads authority can be different again Do u have any rego papers or the rego plate still on the bike ? Did u look it up here ? https://www.myrta.com/wps/portal/ex...s9uQ2uuI0vmJaKhkF5QN_AENrReoKuxjN2X_anqJlQ!!/
No Rego papers as yet or plates did find out off rta that it was last regoed in 2011 and that engine number and vin number match up but they are not as bike is described in add bike is said to be 88 gpx however revs says it is a 90-92 zzr with 97-01 being the year of compliance
Well u now own a legal 90-92 ZZR250 ..... as long as the RTA records are correct and eng no. and vin are correct and the paperwork matches the bike then everything is sweet. What the previous owners state means nothing.
Ok I think I would now own a gpx with zzr compliance is that correct ? also there has been a motor change old motor matches vin and new motor has receipt which is off another bike that has been deregistered I just get the feeling that vin has been changed off a zzr to a gpx should this be an issue for blue slip? I assume as long as I have receipt for new motor and zzr vin which is registered with RTA I should be sweet or should I walk away as a dodgy sale Also how could I check vin on plate against frame number to be sure this is the bike if it helps at all sorry to be a pest
Ok .... PM me a link to the ad if its on Gumtree or similar? EDIT : Dont worry... I found it Doesnt say much does it.
Just emailed the link to you No and msgd earlier to find out about Rego papers and have not heard back yet to find out what is on them
Ive just emailed the seller with a load of questions ...... we shall compare notes when he gets back to us
The bike is definately a kawasaki GPX250 II, these are quite rare here in Australia, they had a slightly different body kit and twin brake disks than the standard GPX250, from memory the 89 model GPX's came with 32mm carbs instead of the standard 30's on Aussie delivered GPX's. As this is an import bike, you should see the serial number on the headstem thats been ground away and there should be a new Ïmport Compliance" plate riverted to the frame. I wouldnt think the importer would have mixed up a GPX and a ZZR, any chance of a clear photo of the compliance plate ?
get the vin and compliance plate numbers and run a check on the rta site or if your local rego office is helpful ask if any problems registering the bike.repairable write offs are a nono in nsw.
Yeh thanks guys have done all the relevant checks and comes up clean however my dilemma was that it is an 88 gpx and the revs check of compliance/vin comes back as a 90-92 zzr
Hi guys thought I might let you know how I got on.well I didn't purchase the bike on turning up old mate had the air bleeder I am assuming it was off the bike to bleed the dirty fuel whilst doing this the gasket fell to pieces and bike could not be started. It was nothing like described really. And what he said was clean fuel was coming out of an ice cream container.lol.lets just say I polite fully declined and walked away. I do thank you guys for your help however and shall continue to look for the bike that suits me.
Sounds like the right move when u consider the doubt with its background as well ...... its always hard to tell from photos and his "description" was very poor . Then theres all the hidden surprises under the fairings/cowlings ..... if it looks dodgy on the outside then things will be grim underneath. It certainly doesnt hurt to check out a few bikes even if u dont buy...it gives u a better idea on whats about and what to expect for your money . I bought the Fizzer pretty much from the pix and description as it was 4+ hours away but I was prepared for something that required a "rebuild" .... I preferred to spend less initially and enjoy doing the work that was needed. Thanx for the follow up and let us know if u see something again
Mate, well done. It's never easy to walk away when your mind is set on something. However you've done the right thing and a bike with your name on it is just around the corner. Keep us posted.
