Started fixing up my old engine Originally what happened to ruin it was I turned over the engine without cam chain tensioned so chain skipped and pushed cams out of alignment .... So I recently tackled realignment of cams ,next week i will be leak testing valves and then a compression test Mostly likely bent valves and possible piston crack but I'm keeping hope that it's fine! Shall keep everyone updated ! Not sure weather to just get it running and just track bike it or basically rebuild eveeything for a fresh brand new ZXR ?
You only track bike something that has been made unregisterable (no compliance plate, statutory write-off, all electricals for lights have been cut off) or too costly to put on the road. So, if you're fixing the motor, why not fix it properly?
Ooh not good, what posessed you to kick it over without the tensioner in? Did it jump a tooth on startup or was it already running when it skipped? If the cams are now alligned try giving it a crank by hand to check if the valves are moving freely, you should be able to feel & hear if the compression is there also, and then a proper compression test
I didnt unscrew the Phillips head to let the rod go to put tension on the chain if that makes sense haha It jumped as I tried to start it :/ Have realigned and feels SO much easier and yeah can hear compression! Gunna be testing compression with a comp tester in the next few days I'm guessing bent valves but really hoping not They look good and sound ok but we all know what difference half a MM can make !:/
You wouldnt be the first one to mess the setting of the tensioner up. A mate of mine years ago kicked his zxr over without a tensioner in at all, or any oil for that matter after sitting dry for a month, jumped a tooth on start but ended up no damage luckily
I have some engines for sale one is running and 2 need to be put back together http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/zxr250-a-c-model-parts-for-sale-qld-can-post.9184/
