hi all, finally made my way back to mt gambier for the weekend and took the across for a spin. Everything feels a lot tighter than the zxr250. Brakes, clutch etc just feel loads newer, I guess they are ha. one problem, well two really. 1: the bike doesn't seem to hold a straight line very well and seems to waver around, I'm constantly having to adjust and counter it. no idea what it is. Its as if there is slack somewhere along the line. 2: I don't wanna admit it.. but my zxr is just loads more exciting.. probably less reliable but it just rides in a totally different way and I love it.. I'm torn..
1. Tyre presuures , tyres not mounted correctly , rear wheel not straight (chain/swingarm adjusters) , bent forks , bent wheel......wheel nuts loose? 2. Just like having a wife and a mistress.
The Across is a different beast altogether to the ZXR250, the ZXR250 is race replica and it weighs 141kg dry, with an alloy frame, upside forks, 4 inline carbs etc, its really is designed a full tilt sports bike. The Across is a unique machine, its a more of a sports tourer with similar power as the ZXR250, it weights 163kg dry which is mainly due to the steel frame. Both bikes offer unique charateristics, but if you wanted to compare them, I would be looking at the GSXR250, FZR250, CBR250RR as the true competitor to the ZXR250. In saying that, the across has a great riding position and the storage compartment is awesome... you can fit 2 x 6 packs in there !!!
