    Hey guys.....Soo I ****** up.

Just purchased 2 FZR 250 3lns + a huge amount of parts etc.
And a few of you would actually know of the bike. Black and yellow fairings a guy in Tassie built for the track.
    Well now I have it.

Anyway. It wasn't charging the battery. Narrowed it down to the stator/magneto whatever you like to call it. And here was me thinking, oh Il just pull it off and replace it from the 7 parts engines I have laying around...Well wasn't I wrong.

Every single other one was different to the one in the yellow bike. The one in the yellow bike is a smaller diameter. So I figured oh, Il just pull the lot of and replace everything with one off the other engines.

I destroyed the flywheel whilst getting it off as I didn't have the right sized bolt to use and I didn't really care as it was starting to piss me off and I thought that I wouldn't have to use it again...Again, I was wrong.

It turns out, that for some reason, the spline/shaft size where it goes onto the crank is different! I had no idea....Soo, now I'm chasing another complete flywheel/magneto setup for this engine.

Please if anyone can help me, I have cash waiting to buy one......

In pics below the yellow bike one is on the right whilst everything else I have is on the left.

According to the parts book there are two different stators and three different flywheels for the 3LN's. Identify what model you have first would be a good place to start.

The stator winding's on the right, is the O/D 87mm ?
    If so it's off a FZR250 2KR, 12/1986 TO 8/1988

The engine number would be between 111101 ~ 214101

I'm not sure if you can see the pics?

And the bike is a 3LN1 100% but the engine could be out of anything. I brought it already raced and set up for the track. I guess Il have to search the engine number out.

This is the bike on the left

Part number's are 2KR-814519-51 for the stator
    And 2KR-81459-52 for the flywheel

There is a seller on ebay with a good used one for $120 plus $15 postage
He has it listed tyo suit a 1996 model, but all the other part's he has are off an '86 model?
Reckon he has the year wrong, check the o'd of this stator before buying it if you decide it's right on your ok on the price

So the engine number starting with 1 makes it a 2KR?

It would seem so ..... but Im sure the engine mounts are different from 2KR to 3LN

And the carbs are different size also

2KRs have a skinny steel frame

Just went and measured. Yeah O/D is about 87/88. So that confirms it haha. Looks like the bloke that built it has put a 2KR motor in.

Convenient as every single other motor I have is 3LN.

    Thanks for the help guys

    Such a backward step using a 2KR motor in a 3LN frame

I would be rebuilding using all 3LN components

The 2KR is missing the mounting hole/thread's on the head for the side mounting tube's on the 3LN's
It might have a 3LN head on it? Which would then also need the 3LN manifold's, either carby's (BDS26, BDST28) fit the 2KR or 3LN manifold's (The 2KR manifold's are longer, and a different stud pattern to 3LN)
The rear mount is the same 2KR and 3LN

If you were closer i'd consider swapping my spare 2KR engine for a 3LN engine
3LN is a better engine in my opinion too

It's bolted up to the tubes with the head. So I don't know haha Il take more pics tomorrow if I remember.

And I would just swap it all over to 3LN but all the other motors are essentially unknown condition.

Bah didn't look like my original post went through. Weird.

As per our FB discussion I'll have a look soon and let you know what I have. I have never had a 2KR engine, but the 1HX engine I have for the FZ250 looks like it either is or is very close to that. It's quite possible you have a 3LN head on a 2KR bottom end because the 2KR is not a straight bolt into a 3LN frame. Yamaha told me the head gasket is the same for all 1HX engines so I know I have the same head gasket on the phaser as I do on my 3LN.

It also explains your shaft issue - the 2KR shafts are different aren't they...? shorter or something and the 3LN's are longer... something like that. So if you have a 2KR bottom end with 3LN spare parts... sorta makes some sense. Don't know if I'm right as I haven't checked any parts books etc etc.

Here's what I have, 2 off. Not sure it's going to help you though by the looks of it. These are definitely 3LN3+ stators. I could send you just the flywheel but it would suit this stator....
