Cheers mate but no. That's exactly the same as every other one I have dammit. Oh well. Will just have to chase someone down that has old 2KR engines laying about.

Yeah the 2KR's have a shorter output shaft where the front sprocket bolt's onto
The sprocket is held on via a locking plate and 2x bolt's
3LN's have a longer output shaft with the front sprocket held on by a big (27mm) nut

Yeh 2KR bits aren't too hard to find. Gumtree might help too although I haven't been browsing in a while.

Be careful using engine numbers to identify engines from JDM Yamahas, because the engines never originally had numbers. The engine casing would have originally just been stamped "1HX". The serial number was likely stamped when the bike came to Australia - this number is probably the same as the number on the frame in which the engine was fitted when the bike arrived in Australia, but there is still no guarantee that engines weren't changed in Japan.

In this case, the frame number 126979 does correspond to 1987 2KR.

I think that Yamaha began stamping engine numbers for JDM bikes around 1994ish, but not sure (and also not sure if it applied to all models).

    Regards,
    James

Both my 1991 FZR250's have engine numbers, while my 1986 FZ250 doesn't. The 1989 FZR400 does as well.

Don't know how that marries up unless they were stamped later on import date (except the FZ maybe)
