    Test fit for the slightly taller airbox rubbers ..... all good and the tank cover still fits also

    Must be nearly time to put some petrol in it and press the GO button? I wonder what effect the slightly longer rubber boots will have on the engine's running?

    About the airbox rubbers.

    I was thinking about my car that needed similar boots but the dealer only sells the whole manifold for big bucks.

    In the end they used silicone turbo ducting. You could use that for the carb side no problem, but the airbox side is a bit trickier.

    One thing I thought of is to modify the box so you have some fixed velocity stacks in the box and protruding out the bottom, then you can use any type of appropriate hose or piping to connect them up. The hard part would be securing and sealing the velocity stacks within the box, and the mounting arrangement for the box itself. Most modern bikes have a system where to remove the box you have to unbolt the stacks from the inside of the box as they bolt directly onto the throttle bodies and have a seal between them, but I think this bike predates that sort of arrangement.

    If it does have an affect I can try fitting them into the second slot , then if all that rubber inside the box causes a problem then slice of that top layer , which would make them pretty close to the same as the originals ..... but it sure was easy fitting the airbox!

    There are performance velocity stacks for the EFI bikes , so maybe Ill have that for my carbys :lolsign:

    Ah, my bad. I thought they were between the carbs and the engine. I didn't realise they were between the carbs and the airbox...should make little to no difference, unless there is some form of velocity stack built into the airbox (like the ZXR250's have). For WOT (drags) you might want to bring the airbox closer to the carbs. Any thoughts from the other forum members?

    How sexy do those triumph velocity stacks look?

    Get a modern R1 airbox and graft the variable length stack system onto it :) More like combined long and short stacks in one.

    Long stacks until you hit peak torque in the rev range, then lift them to the point of peak power and redline.

    It's just a normal airbox, so all good. The 'velocity stack' is the lip on the rubber connectors. Like you suggested, you could mount the airbox on the second groove (your red arrow) and leave the bit marked with your red X so that it sticks into the airbox. I read somewhere that having the inlets extending into the airbox is the best option for breathing across the entire rev range. Should all work fine and should be a quick bike on the race track and drag strip.

    Here is a video showing how to make som Velocity stacks... looks pretty easy... not a lot of equipment needed at all....lol

    Bonus .... the 250 3LN1 front stay and cowling fit the 3EN2 .... both 1989 models helps I guess .... original stays are unobtainable

    Sadly a quick fill / keyless fuel cap is something I cant find ... or doesnt exist
    That is the original setup ... just hasnt got the fuel tank installed as yet

    AAH, OK, I didn't realise that model uses the fuel cell and tank cover - I do actually like the fuel cell concept as it puts the fuel at a lower position benefiting the centre of gravity.

    The fuel cells also look to be less likely to rust and if they do and need repairs, it's not a visible cosmetic element like rusted out tanks are.

    Its a start and run .... next step has to be a run under load .... but that means a ride up the street with an open pipe and obviously unregistered .... so need to be selective for that moment

    Starts on the first button , with a little choke when cold
    RR "upgrade" seems to be working ok
    #1 header is only half the temp of the others and that was the plug that was cross threaded but we shall see after giving it a hiding up the road

    Jobs done :
    Air filter
    Oil and filter change
    Coolant o rings
    Full carby rebuild
    Inlet manifolds
    Airbox boots
    Steering stem bearings
    Fork overhaul
    New front master cylinder
    Front calipers overhaul
    Front wheel bearings
    Rear Caliper rebuild
    Reg/Rec "upgrade"
    Header gaskets



    The digital dash is a nightmare ..... it cycles at ignition on , but only displays a timer and neither button does anything to set it up ....... Ive already spent hours trying to figure out which wire goes where from the mess its in..... all I really want is the tach.
    The instructions state ....

    This Ginger-Ninja has a YT vid about that dash. I have not watched all of it, so might be a waste of time, but he does go through the setup of the unit.

    All together again and rideable ... still need a race tail but thats another story (and Ill just ignore the dash) .... it started first tap again today with tank + fuel pump in place.
    Road test next ... its school / TAFE holidays for 2 weeks so that means little traffic outside
    And my son will be home to help me get the thing out the back door and onto the starting grid :D
