    Blair had the good info on regulators quite some time ago

    I haven't the spare cash for this upgrade right now, but I am going to the follow the ounce of prevention adage as soon as I've done the other necessities and get one of the mosfet units

    I just love Carbys !
    So heres the the set I just nabbed off ebay....
    Took #4 bowl off just to get an idea of their state of play .... jet housing holding nut missing
    So I decided to check the rest ....... of course, butchered JIS screws so out with the dremel
    So in the end we have some clean bits and some not so clean bits.
    Some of the jets look awful but Im just going to blow out the big lumps and stick them on and see what happens.

    The #4 needle seat was 'stuck' in .... but it did come out pretty easy and the crud was holding it in I think.
    It did press back in with a little grip and didnt just flop out like I remember with the rebuilt carb set ..... but it still came out with just a very small amount of effort...... nothing like the 400 carb !
    And if you look at all the crap on the seat and o ring , it doesnt look like it seals too well ..... obviously its an old o ring but it looks like its not just seeping but letting lumps thru ...... I think maybe the whole design in this area is junk.

    My seat seal was the same the first time I removed it & it is one of the tight sets, that is when the new seals are fitted the seat won't stay down in the housing, it pops out a bit & rely's on the bowl to force it down into place.
    Nice pick up, what did you pay for them?

    Clutch plates & springs just arrived from England.
    I will install them this arvo, then I'll be able to give her a good run.
    Hope she doesn't play up, Ha Ha
    I'll make no mention if she goes well.

    That's great, there's some comfort now when trying different settings or mods, you'll have spares.
    What were the floats set at ? measured dry from the mating face of the bowl to somewhere on the floats.

    I've never measured the float height - mainly because I've never come across a specified value anywhere - though i have seen the same question left unanswered elsewhere, or the reply is along the lines of; that's a crude method that can get you in the ball park -> but then you need to measure the fuel level to get it set right

    Yea Ive seen values for the bigger FZRs but not our poor forgotten 250

    Ill at least measure them all to compare 1 carb to the next ..... and do the same when I remove the main set.
    I can also measure the height from the other spares I have .... the floats were actually from the running bike when purchased.

    Ill probably get 12 different measurements :commando:

    I did see a good tip of using a playing card with a section cut out to measure float height, that way it sits correctly on the gasket face of the carb body - would be a quick way to check across them once you have a measure of one specimen

    yea Ive seen something ,either a thread or a youtube, where they use an old credit type card with a section cut out......cant find it of course !

    you havin a go at ALL my 12 carbs ?

    On a completely unrelated note; I got my Keihin FCR kits finished today (only took 10 months). They include the mid-body seals and I am the only one on planet Earth that has them (I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I say that). The mid-body is epoxied to the main carb body on these things, so the seals are free to rot forever, which they do. Then the owner wastes their life away trying to "jet" them before giving up and releasing them on eBay again. This achievement is all thanks to a Mr Matt Harper in the UK, who has a business refurbishing carbs and wanted to fix these "unfixable" carbs.

    Also Suzuki GSF250 Bandit and GSX-R250 kits are also finished. Just have to take some pics and update the web page (tomorrow's job). I hope to have a carb hiatus now, except for the 'specials' that the 4 musketeers are working on.

    Don't measure like he has them standing up in the picture. Tilt the carbs till the float just stops when the needle touches the seat & the floats will bounce back when you lift them a little. My mechanic rapped my knuckles till I got that right.
    Even just a flat blade ruler will do it depending on your eyesight.
    Measure to any same point on each float.
    Sorry to tell you guy's how to suck eggs, if your already aware, this is all somewhat new to me, good exercise for the brain & hopefully a reward at the end.
