Ok so Friday was sorting out the whole fuel line issue. The issue being that I wanted a standard fuel line setup. Or at least be able to be converted to a standard one later.

First was to redo the tank to peacock lines, and with enough room in the lines so that way I can simply undo the bottom bolt & lift the tank up pivoting on the top bolt & a big piece of wood underneath so that way I don't always need to remove the tank to work under it. I also added what looks to be the breather line for the tank. (My old main tank to peacock line)

With that done I set about tackling the different fuel line size issue. I didn't really want to change out the fuel pump as when we checked it while trouble shooting the starting problem, the contacts look near new. And I still have to use a bigger line for the carb T piece inlet anyway. So my idea was to use an inline reducer to increase the size (oxymoron there I know) from the peacock line after a small inline fuel filter to the bigger inlet diameter lines on the pump.

After a bit of head scratching my mate sort of gave up on the idea. But I continued on it. He had to leave for a few hours & said "Well if you want to look for something" walking over to his old metal chest of drawers he opens a drawer "here is a drawer where we just through stuff in, all sorts of bits and bobs. You might just find what your looking for. It can be a bit of a gold mine this drawer" a few minutes of rummaging around I found something that suited my needs.

So how do you make these two different sized hoses fit together?

With this. And I don't know what the hell it is!

Perfect size to fit the smaller hose on one end, and slide my old fuel line on the other side to fill the gap in diameter, in the same fashion as what my peacock line on the tap was, and then slide the bigger hose on top of it, clamp, & trim to size to fit inside the space between the frame.

Unfortunately I don't have an in situ photo (which I will add later to show off my impressive improvisation - big noting myself, I know) but I was in too much of a rush to throw the petrol in & kick it in the guts to see if it works. And it works a treat.

    WINNER!

Chain has been added & adjusted for the first ride.

However a few issues have cropped up. My horn suddenly doesn't work. Which is odd, as the two previous old ones just had a clicking sound when you pushed then released the button. And the horn I fitted the other day & tested faultlessly a number of times throughout the day is not doing the same. I will need to check the connections I think.

And my front brake light switch is no longer working. I just check these things now & again for situations like this. It too was working fine the other day. Back is working a treat. Front isn't now. :?

And one question and best to answer would be our resident fizzer expert, Grey import. How do you adjust the idle on these babies? My mates FZR 1000 just has a screw you can adjust the idle with. We couldn't find it on mine. Is there one?

Also mine is a little touchy on a cold startup. I need full choke then slowly release the choke and then rev a few times & it idles fine (Albeit low). If you don't do this it dies & you have to wait a minute before attempting again.

You can adjust horns with the small screw in the back of them. It is a limiter adjustment on the solenoid that makes the spring plate vibrate back and forth and sometimes needs to be moved a fraction to get the horn working. Power to the horn and try adjusting it either way until you get the loudest sound.

Great innovating ! .... I had a similar situation on mine cuz of the oversize pipes on the fuel filter.
I also made my two lines from the tank outlet extra long for the same reason .... I can actually take the tank right off and lay it next to the frame without disconnecting anything.

This is your idle screw ....

    Idle screw 3.jpg

This is off my spare carbs .....

    Idle screw 1.jpg

This is the carbs on the bike ....

    Idle screw 2.jpg

With the starting ..... how are your pilot screws set?
Mine are 3 full turns out and mine starts with little or no choke first go every time.
All bikes/carbs/conditions are different but u may find with the idle adjusted it may help also.

Yeah the idle is a little low. Needs choke for the first start, then slowly wind the choke down to get the bike idling. But then conks out. Hold the throttle down a tiny bit and it purrs like a kitten.

Where are the pilot screws? And what exactly do they do? I'm guessing they regulate how much initial fuel is dumped into the carbs for startup.

I did think about adding more to the lines but was afraid of kinking from being too long. Or rubbing on the engine. Those lines of yours must be epically long. How'd you solve the routing problem?

I would think thats a standard starting procedure ..... with of course the idle set correctly instead of the throttle doing that job.

When I have the tank back on I just check the lines are not fouling the clutch and are sitting in a position that they wont kink ..... they rest on the engine but I guess alot more road time will determine if its a good idea or not ..... I plan to get some good high quality fuel line eventually.

Pilot screw ...... after I screw it in fully (not tight , just when it hits resistance) I put a mark on the carb body inline with wherever the slot is ..... much easier to calculate 3 ( or 2½ ) turns out.

Heres a diagram to show how each jet setup affects each throttle stage

If the bike is running ok otherwise dont touch the pilots ..... just screw in the idle adjuster a little and see how it goes.

Alrighty. I have a bumper pay day coming up thanks to a few extra shifts thrown my way. Most of it is going to bills, and some to the fizzer to get it on the road.

First port of call is the front brake switch. Does anyone know of where to get one of these in oz? http://bit.ly/19raJLB

I will be contacting my local Yammy dealer and seeing what the go is there. But I would like a cheaper options. Bills are killing me ATM and I dropped the pan on my cars gearbox and found some metal and rubber bits in the dark Auto trans fluid. So I want a back up transport if my box decides to lunch itself.

So all that's left to do is to grab that switch, grab a windscreen, get RWC, and rego.
