OK so went to work on the bike today and cylinders 1 and 4 weren't firing. i pulled the plug for that coil and no change. s o I pulled it out and checked it. the secondary was good at 15k ohms but the primary was 3.8 ohms instead of 2.8. would that be causing the problem?
Too much primary resistance in the ignition coil will draw a low more amp's through the TCI. Sometime's this can cause the Darlington resistor to fail inside the TCI, so best off not running it with that coil
would that explain why 1 and 4 aren't firing? I about 1 to 2 volts to the coil. which is the same as the one thats working. Could the TCI be faulty?
Coil's should have around 12v on the powered side with the ignition turned on (red wire's with white stripe) Have you tried swapping the wire's over from coil's 2/3 and 1/4 to double check it is that coil
also I am trying to pull my calipers apart to get the bike ready for a brake cert. The pistons are really sized in the calipers does anyone have a trick for removing them?
Usually they will all make their way out eventually, I used to put some metal flat bar between the freed ones and pump the lever - once the freed ones had met the resistance of the metal bar the remaining ones would shift eventually. This would depend on your brake system still being intact and free from air - mistake I made the first time was opening the brake system - bleeding it back clear was a PITA hope this helps
Try using a grease gun on the bleed nipple to pump them out, You'll need to block off the inlet to the caliper with a suitable bolt.
Yes you get plenty of them, in our industry you would not believe what some people use to secure a loose cover etc, even using self tapping woodwork screws in some poor old 5/6/8mm threads, which can then only be repaired with the trusty OL Recoil thread inserts.
So I had gifts from over the ditch arrive today thanks grey. Thanks for the sticker and cards. Also have managed to get the pistons out of the rear caliper (using the grease gun method). After a clean up with a scotchy there seems to be a little bit of pitting at the top. not sure if I'll need to replace them or not, will try post some good pics of them tomorrow.

To reuse them will only give trouble (leaking fluid, etc) later on, which may cost a lot more to fix.
Ok so bit of an update. exams are over now so I can finally get back into this bike. I have ordered new pads, seals and pistons for all the brake so the will be rebuilt. I also remember seeing a thread on here somewhere about somebody rebuilding they're master cylinder? does anybody know where that is? I have also purchased a second hand coil to replace my knackered one. but this is also had it. does anybody know where to source after market coils from?
Weird for the new coil to be dead too isn't it? What reading's are you getting from it ?
