I have mostly admired the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers for there design work, intuitive designs and ease of access in most cases. Having said that, I know most of us curse at times the limited space on some bikes and with good reason. Today, rain caused me to stay indoors so I thought I would check my tool kit and ascertain wether I needed to add anything extra.
Ok, take the ignition key and unlock the riders seat, that lock also doubles as a helmet lock, good idea.:thumb_ups:
The seat on the gsf400 is in 2 parts, rider and passenger. So I have the rider seat off. Now I need to remove the passenger seat to gain access to my tool kit but wait a minute, 2 screws attach the rear seat to the frame and the tool kit is under, yes you guessed it, under the rear seat. Hang on, I need the screw driver to undo the 2 screws which is in the tool kit, WTF, someone REALLY GOT THIS WRONG. :headbang: Have to think about this?????:(

You have to do the same as BMW.
Fit a small screwdriver under the riders seat, to access the tool kit.
BMW have a hex head tool/ screw driver under the seat for the same purpose

Hear what you are saying, still doesn't make any sense to me. Why put a small tray with strap to hold the tool kit in place under the rear seat when you need the tool kit to remove the rear seat to access the kit. Dumb.

Well the manual calls them bolts and the parts list calls them screws :commando: ..... as Chris suggested , thumb screws or something removable without a tool seems a more logical choice.

Something like a wing nut, that might work. Might head down to boltmaster and see what they have in stock.

Yea .... reminds me of the coolant hoses on the FZR ..... a couple of them have different diameters each end ..... why wouldnt the fittings on the rad, thermostat and pump etc be all the same?
